Well, it's official folks, I have finally beaten the slump I was in. For some time I couldn't land a fish, I would hook up and either they would pop the hook or my line would break. Now mind you, my line is Power Pro 20 lb braid so there is no reason it should have been breaking. Went fishing earlier this evening and managed to hook into a fair sized bass for the area I was fishing, a beautiful LMB. Managed to land him, tried to weigh but wouldn't register on my scale as it is analog not digital but I did take a measurement and it was 14". Nice starter for the year so far, had a good time fighting it in. Sadly I didn't think to snap a photo, but isn't that just like me. Actually catch something and I don't even get a photo op.

Very true. It's no lunker for sure but at least I'm catching more than snags. I know there's big ones in the pond I fish but they are fairly picky about what they bite on.

WTG. Now that you've gotten that slump out of the way, go get some more fishes.  (Pics are required next time).

Trust and believe next catch will provide pictures.

Bass can SENSE when you have a camera and will often refuse to bite.  You out-thunked him.  Always good to get the skunk off!

Now I'm getting skunked again. Two days of fishing with only one strike and no hook ups. Either the bass here are smarter than everywhere else, or I'm doing something wrong. Not to mentire I've tried all I can, top water, rattle trap, Texas rig several different soft plastics, spinners, only thing I haven't tried is live bait and that's not available around here except for earthworms.

My first question, of course, is this:  Did you bring your camera?  Leave it at home.

Advice of ANY kind would be premature without knowing a lot more and who's to say I would do any better, anyway?  Some fisheries are especially difficult-especially in the summer.  Sometimes the bass population is sparse.  Sometimes the bass eat too well to chase anything fake.  Sometimes they are fished so hard that they (the bass) have all earned advanced degrees in avoidance tactics.  Sometimes we fish where they are not.  It's not USUALLY the specific technique or bait which is the problem-though that obviously can play into it.  When I was younger, I had a knack for getting skunked.  Sometimes I still do.  But not too often.  Perhaps it's because I avoid places that don't produce or, miracle of miracles, maybe I've learned a few things.  Or both.  My FIRST thoughts are these:  Concentrate on areas where there is cover (protection) for the bass, look for vegetation and where food appears to available, and confine your fishing to early mornings and late afternoons/evenings.  Hang in there!

I was specifically fishing heavy grass, most of it several feet thick (depth wise). I had lures in the grass, above the grass, through the grass, at the edges. Senkos, flukes, top water, jig, even weighted Texas rigged curly tail worm. Of course it is a golf course pond so it's not exactly secluded. I'm fairly certain it's heavily fished. Plus there are bluegill and pickerel, catfish and snappin turtles. Not sure what else but I should have hooked into something but not even a definitive strike. It's agitating.
