I love watching these threads unfold and it is always the same.

The truth

The 1911 is revered in the soul of most Marines.

Shot for shot the 45 is a 100% better round than the 9

That said, I believe getting the 2nd round on target is the most important issue.

Most folks will find double tapping a 9 easier than the 45.  Most Marines don't have that issue.

The next issue and one always raised it that one is double tapping, the 45 runs out of rounds, yielding the benifits to the 9,

I have a few of both, and the best one is the one you have on your person.  I carry my 9 far more than the 45 as the 45 is just to freekin heavy.

In the real world it is about getting out of a situation, given the average person isn't getting 500 rounds down range per month, the 9 and it's sheer mag capacity is better for the average guy.

On a side note, the 9's that the fbi carry are not stock.  The trigger work alone make them feel totally different than one you and I could buy.  I know, I have shot them

Next topic will be metal or plastic ?

I've heard alot of good things about the shield!!

I am a former LEO from the NYPD. I carried a Smith 5946 which is a relatively large framed 9mm. My back up was Kahr K-9. I hated the Kahr just as I hated the LCP and Body guard .380's. They suck to shoot with. And I believe if you are going to carry, you should be proficient with what you carry. That said, once I shot about 20rds out of each weapon, they were extremely uncomfortable to shoot.

I now carry a Glock 43(w/+2 mag) 9mm. It is small enough to fit in my pocket of my shorts down here in Fl. during the hottest months and it is pretty comfortable to shoot. The extra capacity doesn't hurt either. I am looking into the G30S because I prefer .45ACP.

When I retired, I found myself buying Glocks and getting rid of any other make of pistol that I owned.

The CZ 75 in 9mm Luger/ parabellium is one of the best pistols today. It's little brother the CZ 83 in 9mm makarov, 380acp, 32acp is a smaller compact pistol. The CZ 83 in 9mm mak holds 12rounds? To me a pocket gun would be a CZ 50 or a CZ70. A small revolver like a H&R in 22lr or in 22 war is another choice. Your could consider a in the pants holster too. Clips on your belt. I carried a 44mag for over four decades.

My two cents: First; look into a sneaky pete or that type of holster. Most people just think it's a cell phone case.

As for summer carry there are many options and choices, However the best answer is what are you comfortable shooting.. A well placed 22 round, is way more potent than a 50 cal that misses the intended target. I carry 9mm mostly, however in certain situations like when I am preaching,  I carry this. Double barrelled 22 mag shown below.  I actually shot a field rat with this gun at 10 yds in my barn.  It is not my first choice of course, "but is loads better than a rock".

When I first took my CCP, The instructor ask my what my comfort range, If someone pulled a knife and started running at me?  WELL, I said about 300 yards and he cracked up. :D The truth is and what he doesn't know, is that I often shoot across a powerline where I hunt at a friends place and with my ruger 308, I kill deer regularly, so I was just being honest. lol  Whatever you choose, practice often and always pray for the best, but be prepared for the unexpected.

the argument for best gun or caliber will go on forever.

No gun is best for everyone.

Go to a range and shoot a few. You may realize a pocket gun is not the best option.

I have seen a lot of shooters at the range using small pocket guns that could not hit a silhouette at 7 yards.

They would be just as effective throwing the gun as shooting it.

My everyday carry gun is a Springfield compact XDM in 9mm. it is identical to the full size XDM, except it has a shorter barrel and shorter magwell. It is extremely accurate.

Even with a double stack 13 round mag it is easily concealed at appendix carry or behind the hip. you just need a good holster.

this is my holster:

I have the same one. It is an XDS correct?

Oops never mind, I overlooked the 13 rd mag part.  Mine is a XDS which is very accurate but not many rounds.

The smallest 9mm I own is a HK P30SK.  My pocket guns are a Sig 238 and S&W 340PD.  I carry .38’s in the 340, full on .357’s are too much in a J frame for me anywhere but the range.

My pocket guns are:

A S&W 340PD .357 Mag Snubby that weighs 11.58 ounces including a set of Crimson Trace laser grips.

A Kel-Tec P-40 that's a .40 Cal. that weighs just over 15 ounces.

My always gun is a Kel-Tec P-3AT .380 that weighs 7.48 ounces. This gun is so light that I always carry it no matter what other gun I may be carrying.

Glock 43 for me. But it’s not a true pocket pistol. It’s an inside the waistband pistol.

Kimber micro is nice for pocket carry but I like something a little bigger for my everyday carry I switch between a glock 43 and 26 but when I’m able to carry full size I carry my hk vp9 which is by far my favorite to shoot out of the 4

I hope when folks are using the words pocket pistols, they are referring to small.......not a pistol in a pocket with no trigger guard.

I have seen more than a few mishaps with folks not using some kind of holster.

I for one have grown fond of my thighs

I pocket carry my xds rarely and an lcp... but I have holsters for both. Not a big fan honestly.

My daily carry used to be an XDM compact in .45. I love it, I still shoot it, but for the size and the weight I wind up grabbing either the xds 9mm with the +1 mag and a spare +2 mag in my pocket or grabbing the XDM full size .45 and the owb holster. No point in full size 9mm in Connecticut, I can only have 10 round mags ?

Not 9mm but the NAA pug is pretty awesome and super light, other then that its the S&W shield.

Favorite 9mm is the Sig Sauer Legion 226.
