Puggz Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 After a lengthy discussion with Gary I've decided on a DX743 C for my jig/worm rod. Any thoughts on a reel and line?? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 22, 2017 Super User Posted June 22, 2017 Tatula SV fits nicely on my DX744C 2 Quote
Diggy Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 There are so many great choices like the Metanium MGL, Chronarch MGL, Lews Team Pro, BB1, various Daiwas and so on.. you can't go wrong but the important part is that you Braid with leaders when needed on most of my reels. Few others have various copolymers, fluoros, etc Brands vary for me, but I don't buy hyper expensive line. 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 Daiwa Tatula CT 6.3-1 would be my first choice. Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 I have the 743 Extreme. It's paired with a Diawa SV103. The new Tatula SV looks very sweet and would balance very well with that rod. You have plenty of options but that would be wish model. Depending on the cover you will be fishing, 12 or 14 flouro should work well. Quote
clh121787 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Man just buy a curado spool it with 15 flouro (sniper,seagar,trilene100...) And be good with it. No need to pay twice as much and get a marginal better reel. Curado is the lowest price point reel I own. And I have a pile of shimanos, conquest, metaniums, cores, chrons, but for the price . Curado gets the win imho Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 23, 2017 Super User Posted June 23, 2017 My vote goes to the Chronarch MGL. I love these reels. 1 Quote
Puggz Posted June 23, 2017 Author Posted June 23, 2017 I ended up ordering a MGXtreme for a great price on ebay (from japan). I know this reel isnt' that popular on this site but that's what I went with. I'll report out at the end of the summer on how much I like it.. Regarding line, i"m going to try 14lb floro. Something mid range price wise. I use KVD line conditioner so this should do it. Thanks for the recommendations. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted June 24, 2017 Super User Posted June 24, 2017 well i own the casting and spinning version of the rod. It is not a jig rod for sure. Unless your fishing a river with 1/8 and 1/16 this rod is way more moderate than every other rod i own. I wish now that i had got the 4 power rod and i still use it but not for the intended purpose. I use 4" paddle tails and 4" wacky rigs. The power is much less that what i am used to on a medium power rod. On the plus side its a great squarebill rod and works tube baits very well. I run mine with an alphas and i think the larger reel will feel to big. 20lb braid with 10 lb or 15lb leader will work well or 10 lb YHB. If your a die hard shimmano guy i would look at a core. Quote
