Line Color: Which Is Best, Or Does It Matter?

Which line color do you like best, or does it even matter?

If it depends, then on what?

Which would you call the best all around-color if you could only use one?

I use braid as a main line 80 percent of the time... Moss green, camo, white and hi-viz yellow have all worked the same for me really so I don't think it matters so much..this is in fairly clear water too

With fluoro or mono line, I go clear.  Braid tied directly I use moss green.  Braid with a leader I go with hi vis yellow braid and clear leader.

 

If I could only use one I'd probably use a clear fluorocarbon.

I think clear is the best all around color. But I do have a few setups with moss green Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I run either straight clear Sunline Sniper Fluoro or use it as a leader on braid.

I use braid. I use yellow color so that I can see it.

Until  recently I would have said " any color as long as it is low vis green.

 

Today I am open to adding a high vis yellow for better line watching

I use color more as an indicator as to what pound test it is. Hi vis green 50lb, mossgreen 30lb, and ocean blue 15lb. I use moss green p-line cxx copolymer as a leader.

In saltwater, I used Ande 'PINK' line for many years.

Lo & I were putting lots of lunkers in the box, then it finally hit me!

Female fish have absolutely no defense against "PINK"

Tournament-grade Ande Pink line was made of 'nylon', a line whose popularity was bolstered

by the fact that it broke at the specified line-test and abided by IGFA standards.

Back then, we already had 'nylon braid' and 'dacron braid' but neither line held a candle

to 'polyethylene braid' which came much later. Today in fact, the word 'BRAID' auto-magically

presumes polyethylene, a tad presumptuous wouldn't you say?

 

In any case, today I use polyethylene braid for everything, and even though I never use a leader,

I pay very little attention to line color (so many more important factors). The most popular braid color

seems to be 'moss green' and that's fine with me

I will say that using Power Pro hi-vis yellow has helped a lot with fishing flukes and Senkos under docks. Many times you cast under the dock, lay some line out, and watch it. Next thing you know you'll see your line dart off to one side and you'll know that a fish took your bait.

Which is why I have Sufix Siege Neon Tangerine on several reels.  Like it a lot.  Need to try a hi-vis yellow.

 

OP, don't know what my "one" line would be.  Haven't tried them all yet.  Right now I not only use a lot of Siege in various colors, but have a couple 3000 yd. spools of AN40.  Looks grey on the spool, but pretty clear as a single strand.

color the first 6 ft of your hi vis yellow braid with a black sharpie if only to make you not think about it. 

 

clear, green and gray mono and FC is what i own. i have not noticed a difference in lightly stained to muddy water in these 3 colors.

I use all the bright colors. I will continue to use green until I respool those rods.

For worming and Jigging I use clear blue fluorescent . I just fish better and thus catch more fish when I am able to see the line  . Crankbaits , spinnerbaits and such visibility isnt as important to me so I go with green or clear .

And here I thought I was the only one who hates having moss green line on my reels with red accents. Looks too much like Christmas to me.

 

I tend to stick with clear lines most of the time. Stren clear blue fluorescent is awesome as it is a purplish color above the water which lets me see it better while fishing.

I spooled up 2 reels last week with KastKing Masters Hazard Yellow mono. Only used it one day, but caught 10 fish on it and the bass didn't seem to mind the hazard.

Must do more testing, but so far I am really liking this mono.

 

As far as what color I normally use? Well for braid, I have always used moss green. I bought yellow but haven't used it.

For mono and fluoro I have always used clear lines. Some clear florescent as well. The florescent adds visibility for me, but it disappears well in the water and becomes clear.

 

Used to be big on line visibility, but I am slowly trying to debunk the theory that fish can see my line and stay away from my bait due to it.

 When I bought some U.S.A. Braid a few years ago, the choices were green or orange.  Orange has the benefit of being easier to see; additionally, being a Syracuse University grad, I am partial to orange so the choice was easy.  I love orange.

For mono, I love a green line. easier to see above the water for tying knots, harder for the fish to see below in clear or stained water. its a win win.
