Owner Twistlock hooks

Anybody throw a senko on an unweighted twistlock style hook? I've been throwing them on a regular 3/0 EWG and they won't last even two fish. If you hit a bream bed with them the neck on the senko sometimes gets torn to where the bait won't stay straight even without catching a bass. I'm wondering if the twistlock would work without adversely affecting the action of the bait? I've noticed my swimbaits last a lot longer with a twistlock vs threading them on a standard EWG hook.

Use the Twistlock light with cps.I've been using this for senkos and for me the senko lasts a lot longer.  This hook was designed with the senko style bait in mind.  Even says it on Owners package.  If it works for you like it has for me your senkos will last longer.

I have and it works.  With the Owner Twistlocks I get a lot longer life out of Senkos/stickbaits.  The damage I see is where the hook goes through the worm.  Once you can't get a good bite anymore due to stretching damage, you simply twist the worm a bit either direction and it's like new again.

They're a bit pricey (compared to standard hooks) but since they tend to be gentle on the baits, that compensates some.  But I do like them and I especially appreciate how the center "post" makes it much easier to thread the screw onto the bait.

Years ago I made my own springs before Hitchhiker came out with a clip on spring and used those until Owner came out with CPS spring, now that is my choice. I use CPS springs on my jigs in lieu of a fiber weed guard. The answer is yes they help with Senkos and any other soft plastic to attach to a hook eye.

Caution, be careful not to thread your line through the CPS spring attachment loop when tieing knots as it can weaken the knot strength.

Nope. I have em but usually just use em for fat IKAs and small paddle tails. 

 

3/0 ewg is a perfect hook for a tx weightless 5" senko and I can flip it and use the worm wacky and still catch fish with this same hook...

 

If your bait gets torn up , cut 1/4" off the bait and re-rig... This keeps the hook in fresh plastic and I promise the bass don't mind if the bait is 4&3/4" . Lol. I've cut em all the way down under 4" and had continued success with them.

The trick to getting a Senko to last multiple fish is all in the rigging accuracy and the hook if you are Texas rigging it.  My record for 1 Senko was 15 hard fighting smallmouth.  Use a thin wire hook, make sure the "head" of the Senko covers the hook eye very close to the ling (but not any more or the line movement will cut the bait) and make sure when you skin hook the bait it is is as close to perfectly straight as you can get it.  Pulled too tight and it will rip the head of the bait back off the hook and too loose will push it up and line will cut it.  Take a look at SKip Gap hooks as well.

The Owner Light Twist-lock 3/32 weighted 4/0 hook is tied on one of my rods 90%+ of the time.  Senko, fluke, rage craw, etc.

Yes, be careful when tying these hooks.  I learned the hard way.  If you get it through the spring loop your line will snap when you set the hook.

3/0 Owner twist locks is all I use for T-rigs.

3/0 twist lock for almost everything from Fluke/Senko and Fat Ika and small swimbait.

I use the Twistlocks in almost every situation where I would have before used a EWG.   For reasons I cannot articulate, I hate the weighted ones though, and use the Moaner Hooks ones for that.

The Owner Twist Lock Light is the best hook I ever used for Senko worms, and flukes!!! I got a pack of 3/0 to try with a Senko a few years back and I loved them, they made the worms last a little longer and I didn't have any fish throw it either. Then a friend told me to try them with fluke and I've not only tried them with flukes but a lot of other soft plastic jerkbaits and I'm sold, no better hook for those. For a 4" fluke the 2/0 is the size you want and for a 5" fluke the 4/0 works but the hooks are so sharp that a 3/0 will work just fine. I use a 3/0 for a 5" Senko and a 2/0 for the 4" Senko, and for those that say a larger hook for the 5" Senko, Gary Yamamoto says the 3/0 is the best size, he only uses the 4/0 when using the weighted hooks because they don't make the 3/0 in the weighted version.

As WRB stated care should be taken fishing on to ensure you only time to the hook eyelet and do not also get the spring eyelet in the knot. I happen to be digitally challenged with this tablet and cannot post images to more clearly define it. Sorry!

To ensure I don't get the CPS Twistlock in my knot, I always thread my plastic bait onto the CPS Twistlock first, THEN tie the hook to my line.

That is what I was discribing, except I use small dia body finesse dia body worms and cut them 2" long with a 1/2" spilt tail where the hook point is inserted into to protect it from snags. It's easier to use Hitchhiker clip on springs that you attach after tieing on the jig.

CPS spring holds better, the knot tieing is a little more difficult with older eyes ar night! Look at the 1st post showing the spring on the hook eye, it's not easy to thread your line through the opening without going through the spring wire.

The idea of using a thin plastic to make a jig weedless is really getting the gears to turn.  This thread is gonna cost me some money.

I use Gamakatsu's version a lot but there is one drawback.  If you fish heavy grass like I do on the Potomac, the spring keepers will collect more grass and foul a lot more.  That is because there are 2 exposed areas to catch grass....the hook eye and the part of the spring clip that attaches to the hook eye.  You cannot twist the bait up far enough to cover theses areas.  If you go with just an EWG hook, you can cover the hook eye and it is much more weedless.
