Scesare1 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Help! Can not figure it out! And it wont let me upload a pic on here so I'll try to deceive it! On my humminbird helix 5 si g2 when I am going very slow 2-4mph there is white lines streaking on the screen. If I'm in side imaging the white lines are vertical down the left side, right beside the boat in the water column. If I'm in down imaging the streaks are horizontal near the top of the screen. It will also do this if I'm sittin still. Not motor started or anything. I go 5mph to scan areas and it goes away. But still aggravated!! Please help Quote
Bucky205 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Give us more details. Where is the transducer located? Is it the only fish finder on the boat? Have you tried it with all other systems on the boat turned off? Quote
Scesare1 Posted June 20, 2017 Author Posted June 20, 2017 Sorry. Transducer is located on transom. Starboard side. I've got another depth finder on trolling motor. Yes I've tried it with everything else turned off. Like I said, when I pick up a little speed(bout 5mph) it goes away. If I'm sittin still or going rlly rlly slow the lines are present. Idk if it's some kind of turbulance or what? I tried adjusting it and nothing I would upload a pic from my phone but it says the file is to big ? Sorry for my noobness Quote
Bucky205 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I'm thinking possibly your transducer needs to be a little bit deeper in the water. Air under the transducer will cause lines on the display, sometimes even intermittently as the boat rocks from wave action. The reason it goes away above 5 mph as you accelerate past 5 mph the rear end of the boat squats pushing the transducer farther down into the water. That would be the first thing I would try. If you can't slide it lower in the mount you can test by removing the screws and having someone hold it slightly lower while you watch the screen. Quote
Scesare1 Posted June 21, 2017 Author Posted June 21, 2017 Okay thanks. I will try that. Doesn't the transducer have to be lined up with the bottom of the transom? That's how I have it. I'll try lowering it and see if that helps! Quote
PECo Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 I think that the newer Humminbird units all have software glitches. I have two Helix 10s on my boat and a buddy has two on his. We both have the same types of problems you describe. Humminbird support has been running through its checklist with him to eliminate potential sources of interference. He's tried different ways of grounding everything and ferrite cores on the cables. The last thing that Humminbird support did was send him a big EMI filter. However, I really think that the problem is with the software in the units. I'll update you if it turns out that I'm wrong about that. Quote
Scesare1 Posted June 21, 2017 Author Posted June 21, 2017 I really hope it isn't a software problem. Ima try lowering it. I wish I could post a pic ok here to show y'all what I'm seeing on my screen. If that doesn't work then I guess Ima contact humminbird support Quote
Jimmyb819 Posted June 21, 2017 Posted June 21, 2017 Maximum picture size is 0.15MB, at least for me. That's roughly 150KB. You'll need to resize your picture in order to post it. Use a free online tool, just type in pic resize in Google. Quote

If that doesn't work then I guess Ima contact humminbird support Let us know, it is only thing that really makes sense with it going away over 5 mph. I was a tech for Westmarine for 8 years after retiring from the Navy. We saw a lot of weird problems with depth finders from thei transducer location and mounting. Quote
Super User MickD Posted June 21, 2017 Super User Posted June 21, 2017 Does the unit have latest software installed? Check your software against the latest per Humminbird. If you have to update it, make sure you have reset the unit to factory defaults. If you don't know how, read your owner's manual and consult Humminbird support on line. Quote
Dozer91250 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 https://photos.app.goo.gl/JthCebtBaPTbX52W6 I've got white horizontal lines only at slow speed on down imaging helix 5 g2. Can't figure it out. Doesn't matter if motor on or motor off, no change, flowing water or static water no change. Thoughts? Quote

I’d guess either some sort of interference, or you need to adjust your sensitivity. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 You have to set the scroll speed to match the speed you are travelling through the water. Might be as simple as needing to slow the scroll speed down, or do your side scanning at 5mph. If you want to go at 3mph, then slow the scroll down. Quote
Dozer91250 Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 It occurs at no speed as well. Adjusted scroll up and down no difference. Side imaging does not have the issue. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 Have you tried trimming the motor up a bit to see if it's seeing the motor? Also, do you have a TM sonar on? Could be a bit of cross talk? Go into the menu and reset the sonar to factory settings. I had a sonar that I couldn't make look right, reset it and started again and it worked fine. Sometimes we've fiddled with so many settings it's as well to go back to factory and start again. Quote
