Horizontal vs Vertical Line Tie for flipping gass

Looking at 1/2 -1oz - what do you prefer.

Most of the jigs I flip grass with have a horizontal tie.  I honestly don't think it makes a big difference either way.  The jigs I like just happen to be built this way.

I defer to a pro like Greg Hackney in matters such as this. Vertical!

When it comes to jigs everyone has their own personal repertoire of confusion!

 

What I look for in a jig is a smooth transition from the line to the eye & around the belly, which requires the eye (either one) to be slightly rolled forward. The reasoning is I want my jig to follow the line up to the cover & then slide over or through the cover smoothly. I want a quality brush/weed guard & a quality hook, both are more important to me than head design.

 

If I'm working a shoreline or offshore structure I do not switch jigs just because the cover changed; I can cast, swim, flip, pitch, or punch any style jig!

I fish the Lower Potomac as well and will be using a rig like A-Jay posted. Having tried about 10 different heads they all get stuck with grass. Only one I still use are swim jigs that I fish above grass.

This one works well for me when fishing weedy lakes , I usually go with the 1 oz size.

The line knot at the hook eye is what weeds tend to get stuck on followed by the jig head, horizontal or flat eye doesn't make any difference. If the line knot isn't the 1st thing the weeds contact and the jig head is cone or bullet shaped, it will slide through the weeds without getting fowled....punch jig or rig.

I like the punch rig/slither rig idea alot, going to try that.
