Kistler Light MH compares to what power Dobyns?

Can anyone translate the power of a Kistler "light MH" to what it most closely compares to in the Dobyns line? I'm considering picking on up sight unseen but trying to better understand the power.  

 

Most of my rods are Dobyns, which is why I'm asking it this way

Let's turn your question around.  If you want another Dobyns rod (and I am a big fan of them) then what do you want to throw with your next Dobyns rod?  

Are you looking for a spinning rod or a baitcaster?

What is your budget? Your budget will determine if you are looking at a Fury, Sierra, or one of the two Champion series.

 

Think about what lures and techniques you want to fish with on this rod. Is this a rod to throw lightweight plastics like Sencos and shakey heads, grubs and tubes, is this a more traditional mh where anything from 1/4 to 3/4 texas rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits etc? Are you looking for something to handle treble baits like cranks, traps, and some jerkbaits?  Do you really need a rod to handle heavier stuff  frogs, big heavy jigs or topwater baits like buzzbaits and chatterbaits. Choose your rod by what you intend to do with it.  I find Gary Dobyns does a good job or identifying the lures/ techniques each rod works best with.

That Kistler works out to be a 3 power. It's my favorite action in the Kistler line up for weightless plastics.

I have a Light MH Kistler Mag 2- it's the baitcaster I reach for most often- very versatile, great feel, light, responsive.  Can't compare it to a Dobyns though.

 

fishnkamp is spot on- asking what will you use the rod for.

Scapiron what does that rod do well? I see it handles 1/8 to 3/4 ounce baits.  I would assume it has a light tip, good for say sencos, grubs, tubes, shaky heads etc.  Am I wrong?  Is it good for say 1/8 to 3/8 spinnerbaits?

 

If that is true then I think it would rate around a 703C.  The Dobyns run a little lighter than other brands.

A Sierra 703C will run about $170 and a Champion XP model DC 703C runs $250.

Before you jump on a 703C look seriously at the 704 it is a popular modal as well.

This is all guess work, as we do not know what you want the rod to do.

I have  6'8" LMH fast moderate and it does all those well and top waters within the lure weight really well.  I've used it with smaller swim baits for inshore fishing.  I've also used it for small cranks and traps and it does great. So yeah, I pretty much use it for everything except dropshot, Ned rigs, weightless lures, etc.

 

It's my go to rod and one I always have for the versatility and that it is a pleasure to use. I will say I wasn't a big fan of Winn grips before this rod, but Kistler did something and it's one of my most comfortable handles.
