This is my first foot control trolling motor, and out of the box it seems very stiff. I can see that a full day on the water would be like a long session of leg lifts! Would loosening the cable a bit with the Phillips head screw help, and how much can I safely loosen it. Also, can the pedal be greased with a lithium product?

Thanks for your help

Have you tried it on the water, or just in the garage? It needs to be a little stiff or it will buck all over the place. I believe there is a tension adjustment screw which will help a little, but test it on the water before fiddling with it.
