Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 21, 2007 Super User Posted January 21, 2007 Got a nice little bonus so I'm getting closer to picking up a jonboat to fish some of Atlanta's smaller, electric only lakes. Took a look at the G3 1548 in person yesterday and got pricing info. Haven't looked at the Tracker in person yet. From what I can tell, pricing is pretty similar. Anyone have any reason to pick one over the other? The only thing I can think of is to get a Tracker at BPS so I can use my rewards card. I figure spending several grand gets me a good amount of points. Quote

hipster_dufus Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 i also looked at both brands a few years ago.welded is the way to go, get the widest one u can. that being said i found bass pro added on handling fees thet drove the price of the tracker up 300$ more. i ended up buying at b&b in conyers. i just got more for my money see if u can talk them into some extras if u go with bps, seat bases, a floor maybe, something. make them work for your business Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 21, 2007 Super User Posted January 21, 2007 As someone who fishes the lakes you are talking about and having built a few electric boats for use on these lakes. I have tested several different hulls including the G3 and I would recommend the Tracker hands down. What I want in an electric boat. Light weight. (Welded/Riveted don't matter. You will never go fast enough to do damage to the hull.) Streamlined hull design. (Mod V) Sits low in the water. (The higher it sits the harder it is to control in the wind) Compared to the Tracker the G3 is none of these. It is much heavier than the Tracker. It sits way to high in the water without a large gas motor on it. (Ask buzzbaitfool12 about this one) The G3 hull is not as streamlined as the Tracker. (You will never get the speeds from a G3 that you can the Tracker) When you get ready to wire the boat for all those batteries. Plan on putting most of the batteries under the front pedestal seat. We have found that the more weight you put up front the faster the boat will go under electric power. We like to have 3 or 4 batteries up front and only 2 in the back. If you do this you can get some serious speed out of only one 80lb thrust motor on the back and a 60 or 80lb on the front. Put your live well on a line between the middle and back third of the boat. Now maybe I missed something, but how do I put batteries under the front pedestal seat? Perhaps the tracker jons are different, but I didn't see a way to fit batteries under the front platform. There was a narrow slit under the front platform to store stuff, but it certainly didn't look big enough to get batteries in and out of... Thanks for the recommendation! Quote

I just bought the 19 tracker and tried to get points. they said NO WAY. You get reward points from MBNA (now part of BOA) for everything you buy just not as high a rate as with BPS stuff. I charge stuff all the time then pay it off with cash right away just to get the points. So far I have charged a Yukon, motorcycle, even a speeding ticket and received reward points. We are going to use the card to pay for our new kitchen which should give me enough points for a GLoomis rod. Allen Quote

buzzbaitfool12 Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 ..I had fisher 1448 which is just like the g3..If you are putting a 40hp on this boat it would be good but because it is made for this, I did not like with trolling motors only..I seemed to be much higher out of the water which in turn, turned my boat into a sailboat..I recently purchased a 87 17 ft tracker and have been just ecstatic about this boat for what you are looking for..I would find one of these rigged and ready to go or find a fixer upper and do this..you cant beat these for trolling motor only lakes..Im in the process of selling all three of my trolling motors and buying an electric outboard Quote

MarVaBC Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 Chris, I actually just bought a jon for electric only reservoir fishing here in MD. I went with the Tracker Grizzly 1648L all-welded. I didn't look at the G3's because there isn't a dealer near me. I am happy w/ the Tracker...its very deep, wide, and stable. I am in the process of building a floor for over the ribs now. Not sure how much the G3's run, but the 1548 tracker at my local BPS is $2k, the 1648 is only $100 more, which is a no brainer as far as I'm concerned. The extra BPS cash via the rewards card is handy for goodies as well!! :)Good luck with it! Quote

The G3's are sturdier, wider, bigger, built better, more solid, more attention to detail, etc... G3's are nice. I dont have a G3, but I have been in 2 and they were much better than the Trackers I have fished out of. Quote
