JohnDHenry Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Ok so I have come across a brand new 804 GLX (green) for $300. Just curious if that's a good price or if I could get a new GLX or even a used NRX for that. I haven't seen any for that price but people on here have talked about getting those rods for that? Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted June 14, 2017 Super User Posted June 14, 2017 pretty good, i know the 2016 version can be found for about $350 shipped Quote
Yudo1 Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 That's a good price for new. You can find used NRX for about $325-350. New NRX can be found for about $400. 1 Quote
onetime Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Not sure if that's a great price on a discontinued model, it's ok. I'd add a little to your budget and get a NRX, you can thank me later. 1 Quote
JohnDHenry Posted June 15, 2017 Author Posted June 15, 2017 I know that the nrx is a better rod and can be found at a similar price, but I like the looks of the glx more. This guy that has the glx said he'll hold it for me, he a good friend. I won't be able to get whichever one until August just trying to figure out what would be the best value. Quote
j bab Posted June 15, 2017 Posted June 15, 2017 You're gonna go with the inferior rod because of the looks? Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted June 15, 2017 Super User Posted June 15, 2017 As an FYI that particular GLX is probably the least popular generation. I personally would opt for another deal. As others have noted in this thread the newest GLX series can be had for a bit more as can the NRX series. I would be more tempted to spend another $50-100 and do it right the first time rather than find myself selling this rod and hunting for something different. 6 Quote

Just thinking out loud here... you buy it for $300 and fish and aren't in love with it. Then it is time to sell it. Say you end up selling it for $275 shipped/insured and it costs you $30 to ship and ensure it. That is a loss of $55 to you. Say the rod you really want is $400. Now you have outed yourself $55 already from testing out a rod. That $55 may just cover the difference between what you could buy this rod for or what you may find a rep sample 2016 GLX for or a used NRX. Put a tough more money on it from your end and you have yourself a NRX. 3 Quote
Falkus Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 "Put tough money on it from your end and you have yourself a NRX" Thats exactly what I did .....I bit the bullet and got the dream rod that I want for bottom contact at a great price. G Loomis NRX 803C JWR 3 Quote
Yudo1 Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 If you like full grip then go for the new 2016 glx for a little more $. If you're going to spend that much on a rod, buy something you're going to love. Buy once, cry once. 2 Quote
