Hey guys I'm using Sunline FC sniper in 16lb test. This has happened to me twice now and my line breaks mid flight towards the end of the cast by the near the baitcaster. It's happened on two diff reels but same line now twice. What could be doing this?

Hmm 16lb Sniper is the line I use the most of and I have never had it break. I would make sure you are wetting the line when you tie it and make sure the guides on your rod are not damaged.

Sounds like you have had an over run or two in the past that has kinked the line and now when stress is applied it just breaks.  Its one of the worst parts about dealing with flouro.  I have hit a tree when shore fishing on a brand new spool and had to toss the entire spool of line.  Not going to risk the lures and the heartbreak of a big fish knowing there will be failures.

It's not the knot it breaks mid way through the cast so I have my lure with a big strand of line fly off and it appears to break near the reel itself.

You might of gotten a bad batch of line. Respool it or use a different brand. Some alternatives are Seagaur Invizx and Trilene 100%z

The line has been damaged or severely stretched weakening it drastically. 16# Sniper is very strong line and difficult to break when you try to break off a snagged lure.

Your rod guides may be a problem, the reel level wind can nick line if damaged, backlashes can flatten the line, I doubt it's a bad batch but easy to test the breaking strength.

As mention throughout this thread, there's a decent chance your line has been damage to a point where at least the length you're fishing, is weak enough to fail prematurely.

Perhaps end for end it.  In other words spool off your line, put the end your fishing back on the spool so that the 'fresh' line is now the part your fishing and the 'damage' length is well beyond your casting / fishing reach on the spool.

Are you using the same rod, could be a guide causing the break.

I believe your answer is above.......but I have seen a couple bad spools.

I would try that reel on a different rod first to eliminate that as an issue

Use a Q-tip, rotating it inside/against the ceramic rings on all your guides, especially the tiptop.  If cracked the crack will snag the fuzz on the Q-tip.

Switch to mono.
