Savage33 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 Alright guys, I've been bass fishing for several years now. I started fishing from the bank then gradually upgraded boats. I now have an 1860 seaark. I'm tired of being a bank beater (I've had no electronics). I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one. I plan to convert my boat over to a bass boat style look. I know for sure I want a graph at the console and one at the bow. My question is, should I get the elite 7 ti with total scan for the console? It's within my price range. I guess I'm asking for pros and cons of the unit. Also, on the bow, should I go with down scan or side scan? Or a unit that can do both? Quote
3dees Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 total scan will give you side scan and down scan as well as broadband. the transducer is really big if your thinking about using it on the tm. the only problem I have read about is the total scan won't read at higher speeds on some boats. really good unit for the price. Super User iabass8 Posted June 10, 2017 Super User Posted June 10, 2017 I have a 7 TI at the console. I really like the unit. The base maps are were a lot better than I was anticipating but adding a navionics card was a must (for me) for sonar chart live in uncharted backwater areas. No complaints about it. Mine will read on plane up to 33-35 MPH but using 2D at 50MPH is, to me, pointless. The second you see it, you've hit it. I much prefer to have a good map and if I don't know the area, I'm at idle anyway. Pretty much use the unit for structure scan (side scan) and mapping and an 70/30 splint screen of mapping/2d when at idle. Does exactly what I want it to. I found mine for 100$ off on jet.com last winter. Get the biggest screen you can afford or find a deal on for the front. I use an Hook 9 at the bow and 99% of the time I have it on split 2d/down scan. It helps recognize transitions on wingdams really well. Really like that unit, too. You can't link these units to others but that's at the bottom of my list. Where/how I fish, it isn't that huge of a deal. Quote

When the fish go deep this time of year, I hate having to stay shallow because I have no way to find the fish deep. I finally decided to just set myself up to catch some on the ledges. I plan to buy a glass boat in the next year or so, so I dont really want to spend thousands on units for my aluminum boat. There are a few places I fish that I wouldn't dare take a glass boat so I will have graphs in there too. 2 hours ago, 3dees said: total scan will give you side scan and down scan as well as broadband. the transducer is really big if your thinking about using it on the tm. the only problem I have read about is the total scan won't read at higher speeds on some boats. really good unit for the price. I'm not too worried about it reading at high speeds. A few lakes I go to are no wake lakes. I just wanted to know if the 7 ti is worth my money. Lol Quote
Savage33 Posted June 16, 2017 Author Posted June 16, 2017 I have an elite 7 ti on the way. Does anybody have a totalscan transducer on an aluminum boat? How/where did you mount it? I think I've got it figured out and hope I can get it right the first time so I don't have to drill unnecessary holes in the boat. Quote

I put a transducer plate on back so I don't have to play the guessing game /w holes. Luckily I got it right the first time. Mine's 13in off center of the prop shaft at the lowest point. Puts it right in front of the trailer bunk. The glossy part of the transducer is flush /w the bottom of the boat and leveled. Quote
