KVD line & lure

I was doing a backwoods experiment between reelsnot and KVD line&lure to see if there was any notable difference between the 2.

 

ive been using reelsnot but bought some L&L recently to put on some line on a couple new reels. I have braid on all my reels 50# Power pro in this case. 

 

What happened was the L&L faded my braid. I put it on about a day before I went out and when I got out to the water I noticed my braid looked like I have been fishing with it all season already. Never had this problem with my reelsnot. 

 

Needless to to say I will be making the switch back to reelsnot. And for what it's worth I couldn't tell a difference performance wise between the 2 but at least the reelsnot didn't t fade my line

ive never used KVD (or other line conditioner) on braid. i use it on FC and mono every time.

 

what benefits does it give braid?

I've noticed it makes it slicker. Just like it does with FC and monoit makes it slicker and reduces memory it's just with braid you don't have the memory so you just get the slickness

I too, see no reason to use it on any line managing product on braid.

Strange fading happened.  I have used it on my  frog reel with the same 50lb Sufix 832 for two years now with no change in the color.

I have both, use both on different reels. They work on the mono and fluoro I use. I have never used it on braid.

 

The reelsnot I have is the Java kind when I want a little scent for fishing.

I also never used line conditioner on braid. Does it make it cast further?

Would never think to use it on braid.

 

Personally I run PowerPro Super 8 Slick so have no need for the braid to be more slick in hopes that it'll increase my casting distance.

 

If you're looking for more casting distance, may I inquire as to how much braking you have setup on your reel?

Once the braid has been cast one or two times and reeled back in under the tension of the lure I feel like that is all it really needs. Just a little help from the lake water and it is good to go.

I only use braid for heavy flipping and frogs and never felt the need for line conditioner. If you use fluorocarbon I'd say it is almost required and on certain mono lines the same thing applies. I've used reel magic and the KVD line and lure and to be honest I can't see how anything can actually be better than the KVD L&L. To be fair I have not tried the reel snot but with the way the KVD L&L performs I see no reason to switch but if the reelsnot works for you then have at it.

I have found that by spraying my braid with conditioner--KVD or Reel magic increases my distance in casts. I have proven it to myself several times over the years.  My outfits are probably 98% braid with FC leaders of different lengths.  JMO but for me it works and helps improve distance in my casts. My point is if it helps relax and make FC better casting why would it not also make braid easier to cast and flow better? Try it for yourself and see if it does or not before completely dismissing it. Also I have used KVD and reel magic on braid for years and have never noticed it fading any faster than normal. I do keep a black sharpie handy to counter the fading on it however but I can not contribute the fading to conditioner-hey maybe partly now that I read OP post about fading but I have found most braid does not need much help in the fade department anyway

Conditioner will absolutely help braid, particularly with the super thin diameter lines and the lightest of baits. I fish for migratory shad in the spring, shad darts are the preferred bait. The 1/32oz darts have better action than the 1/16, but naturally dont cast near as well. I get an measured 5-7 yards+ extra distance on 5lb power pro. There are 2 line conditioners marketed as "braid" conditioners.

 

It's not really going to be noticeable if your chucking 3/4 ounce baits with a baitcaster. But it may help get a few less random loop knots on spinning gear, and help prevent friction from line buried in the spool wedging against itself. Conditioner isnt as earth shattering on braided PE line as a stiff nylon line, but it can help.

I've been using KVD L&L on Power Pro green, red, and yellow braid for as long as L&L has been around, and it never faded my braid.  In fact, it helped the braid hold it's color longer.

LPS silicone spray works good on braid and multiple other household projects. You can use KVD L & L on braid and mono, it doesn't help wet those lines other then provide a lubricant film similar to LPS silicone spray at 1/2 the price.

Some brands of braid are't color fast and fade fast in water.

Then why does it have braid for suggested uses? And why is there a line conditioner specifically for braid... believe it's called braid aid or something.... it's a line conditioner which braid is a line. Although yes you get more out of it on other line types for memory but there are benefits to using it on braid

This is from the company who developed KVD L&L:

 

"Line & Lure is a special polymer blend that becomes part of the fishing line it is applied to. Other line treatments you find on the market are primarily silicone oil and solvents. Silicone oil only temporarily coats the line and solvents can damage line. Silicone oil rapidly comes off the line (on your hands and in the water), requiring re-treatment of the line after just a few casts.

The special polymers in Line & Lure are hydrophobic (water repelling) and very slippery. It doesn't allow water to draw back on to the reel spool, which eliminates the line drag that a "wet" spool has. It also protects the line from wearing out as quickly as un-treated line because it resists the abrasion that wears line out.  It contains no oils or solvents as in Reel Magic that can build up and collect dirt like silicone/oil treatments will".
