Big-Bass Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 We have a trip planned for June 20-23 to the 1000 Islands and are staying in Lake of the Isles closer to the DeWolf Point State Park launch. I have not been fishing in the 1000 Islands since 2006 and have not visited the area since 2008. So I assume quite a bit has changed. The times I did fish it (2001, 2006) we had a lot of success in Lake of the Isles, near Kring Point and Goose Bay, as well as Chippewa Bay. This time, I think a lot of our focus will be closer to Clayton and adjacent to where we are staying with possibly launching at Eel Bay. With the water levels being quite high and flooding out of launches (and islands/rocks being submerged), does anyone have any tips as to where we should focus our fishing. My buddy has a Humminbird Helix and we have been sort of studying the structure/layout of the river and such using the Navionics but any personal experience would be helpful. Thanks and hopefully we get into some nice bass. My buddy and I had a lengthy conversation with Hank Parker at an Outdoors Show back in February and he said nothing but great things about how the river has evolved since the last time I have fished it. He gave us some great pointers and he is a real down to earth guy and it was really an honor to get to talk to him. He said 2-3 pound average fish have been replaced by fish in the 3, 4, and 5 pound range being common. I hope he's right! Thanks! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 6, 2017 Super User Posted June 6, 2017 Water is at record high levels. Be careful, and watch for boating restrictions like speed limits, no wake, etc. You should be in all three phases of spawn, and I would be looking at typical flats areas near deeper water. Local reports are pretty positive. Quote
Big-Bass Posted June 9, 2017 Author Posted June 9, 2017 Any spots worth noting to try out with the water as is? Thanks! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 9, 2017 Super User Posted June 9, 2017 It's been years since I've been up there. I wouldn't have clue, considering the current conditions. You might want to do a little ramp chat, and check with local bait shops. Quote
GSmithBMore Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hey! curious to hear how you guys did? I am heading up there for the week of July 4th and we will be trying to hit the smallies. Staying near Chippewa Bay. Any info will help. Thinking of dropshotting around Rocky points. Quote

My friend Marty has a place up there. Water is VERY high, no wake. He said he was lucky since he has a floating dock. He left the pilings 40" above the dock. There's only 18" left! Quote
Super User webertime Posted June 29, 2017 Super User Posted June 29, 2017 Ive heard of entire docks with boats and jetskis attached, just floating down stream. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 29, 2017 Super User Posted June 29, 2017 We have people who have lost 40-50' off the bluffs to waves pounding the base of the bluffs. In some cases, whole houses have perished. Quote
