Tin Man Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 New tin boat. 60 hp Merc. 12 mph top speed, 6 gallons in the tank when it tells me I'm empty. Thats more than a quarter of a tank off. How common is this. The boat runs beautifully except for this. It's back in the shop right now. 6 hours to go before it's totally broke in. The boat is running much more than 12 mph. Thats just what the speedo reflects. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted June 6, 2017 Super User Posted June 6, 2017 Speedos mean nothing. The only way to correctly see speed is on a gps As for the speedo you may have a piece of debris in the pickup tube. I used to run on the Susqy river and often pick up debris like grass or wood and have to take a small drill bit to clean it out by hand. Since it is a new boat let the dealer figure out your issues. As for the fuel tank, might be a bad sender. Just because it is new makes no difference. My brand new Lowe that I purchased back in 2011 came from the factory with a bad primer ball and that was defective from Mercury directly. I replaced it with a new mercury one and it solved my problem from then till last summer when I replaced the entire fuel line package. Quote
AC870 Posted June 6, 2017 Posted June 6, 2017 Agree GPS is best for speed indicator. Speedo on the old Triton shows me going 65-67 when GPS says 55-57. Quote
Tin Man Posted June 6, 2017 Author Posted June 6, 2017 Sounds good. Thanks. I will let the dealer figure it out. Also when I had Talons installed i have noticed that water now splashes up between the butterfly bracket on the port side and over the transom. Don't know if that is because of a mounting problem with the Talon or the transducer. They are working on that too. Last but not least, my Lowe came with a transom brace. Cabelas removed it and replaced it with washers instead of using longer bolts and reinstalling it. Called Lowe's and asked them about it and they said to put it back on as it is integral to the transoms durability. Once I get the boat broken in (6 more hours) I can set up the electronics. Quote
