B.A.S.S. has become more of a tournament magazine since espn took over. I am a life member of 37yrs and still recieve it. The magazine has far less informative articles,etc than years ago. ESPN took a great magazine, and trashed it with more advertising,etc. The average bass fisherman made BASS what it was in earlier years. ESPN changed it to a high end tournament,whos who advertising magazine

I'm sure you could find something worthwhile in most issues, but like others have stated, advertising and promotion runs rampant, and there is only so many rehashes you can do over the years on any given technique or bait. Dropped my subscription in the early 2000s after more than 25 yrs. Had accumulated over 300 issues by then. I ended up giving them all to Jacob (Wheeler)

BASS was sold by ESPN in 2010 and the new LLC group has returned B.A.S.S. to it's original focus away from trying to satisfy TV and NASCAR audience. B.A.S.S. has always been about tournament bass fishing at all levels and advertising, that's how they started and the key to their success.

The ESPN ownership was a dark period for B.A.S.S. and Ray Scott the founder was responsible for that sale.

I subscribed to B.A.S.S. For the first few years of it's the existence. After that, meh.

I was a member back in the early 2000s and read it quite frequently. Eventually I came to realize that the magazine was an outlet for driving sales to BPS. They would use the same artwork on the great cicada hatching as BPS did on their catalog. It wasn't even near subtle.

 

I also found that the articles were not that informative. They would tell that a guy fishes a certain technique but didn't tell me how to perform that technique. One guy likes to fish a jerkbait. Well what is a jerkbait? It wasn't made for newbies and seemed more like a means for pros to promote their sponsors.

 

I've since renewed my membership after about 14 years so that I could join a bass club. most I do with the magazine now is look at the lunker page.

I had to subscribe so I could do tournaments. It seems like a decent magazine.

I just signed up for it and bass times this month. I haven't received either yet. As far as bassmasters goes for 15 a year I don't think you can go wrong especially with all of the free stuff they send you when you sign up.

I've been a subscriber of Bassmaster magazine for many years. It's not going to turn you into KVD, but there's worse things you can read on the toilet.

I absolutely love this section.  I haven't been online in a while to see if you can read it there, but for me I think this be one of the most valuable pieces of information.  I have been finding and fishing a lot of new water recently, and most from the bank since I don't have a boat yet, so I have had countless successes on new bodies of water that I credit to reading this section of the magazine.

In-Fisherman is a great multi-species magazine with very informative articles.

I've gotten BASS and Bass Times for many years also. I don't tournament fish but like all the info. I get the long subscriptions so that they don't run out as fast and less junk mail associated with it. I like the local and evironmental info in Bass Times.

In-Fisherman is my favorite fishing magazine. It's very well-written and focuses on a multitude of species. What really make it attractive is how relatable it is to upper midwestern anglers and the natural lakes and rivers that we fish, seeing as its founders (the Lindners) live an hour north of me in the Brainerd, MN area.

If your key interests are centered on the tournament trails and pro bass anglers,

then Bassmaster Magazine is definitely worth the small annual price.

If your interested chiefly in insightful facts, and the Where, When & How

of multi-species fishing, then you'd probably be better served by the likes of "In-Fisherman".
