There have been multiple threads about finesse worms that truly float, but I'm looking for a worm that not only floats, but will float a small hook (even if it's just a small finesse hook). I can't find any info on currently sold worms that you can put on a small hook and it will actually stay completely on the surface. Anyone know of one?

Thanks for the help.

FCPhil: I would suggest you take a look at Z-Man soft plastics.  I use their worms and flukes and can attest to the fact that they are VERY buoyant.  They have a wide range of products and, in my experience, will float with a 3/0 hook - the size I happen to use. I'd try to attach a link, but would just monkey it up. Any search should take you right to the website. Might try searching YouTube. That's how I found info about them.  Good luck!

One note: Because of the tough, but very pliable plastic material they use, I can't thread them on a keeper hook like an Owner.  Supposedly you can heat them, but I never had much luck.  If you try them I'd love to hear how you screw the keeper into their products. But, they certainly catch fish!!!

Profound Outdoors makes a floating worm. 7 1/2" called the "Big Bear". Last time I looked they were sold out, however. A lot of the Elaztech worms float. Z Man as suggested and there was a KVD Strike King version a couple years ago. Don't mix with other worms or leave in car on hot day, they fuse.

As far as I know, an Elaztech worm can not be used with a screw keeper. Offset wide gap would be Mu suggestion.

Try Mr. twisters keeper, even z-man came out with EZ keepers them self. I use mustad power lock plus (not spring one) exclusively for Z-man stuff pre-hole with heated needles insert a keeper with a dap of super glue.

Unfortunately, heavily salted plastic worms are far more popular than lightly salted & unsalted worms.

If the worm & hook you're interested in are in my arsenal, I'd be glad to tell you whether the worm

will float or sink with your desired hook (the odds strongly favor sinking).

Below are 3 popular floating worms; worms that weigh less than the water they displace:

> Z-Man 10x Finesse Wormz

> Gambler Floating Worm

> Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper

I have a bag of BioSpawn stickbaits that will float a wacky hook or small wormhook.  I think it is just a QC issue though as they are sold as a salted worm.

Gotta say I kinda like them floating, they give a pretty unique action when worked like a fluke.

What about Zoom's Trick Worm? Don't they float? I have used them t-rigged but never just with a hook.

Zman makes an actual floating worm. I was fishing one on a straight shank flipping hook this spring and it floats them with ease.

I believe that Zoom's Trick worm comes in two styles. The original (unsalted) and salted. The original is more buoyant, but I'm not sure if it would float a hook.

Most Z-man baits will float a hook.

Trick worms all sink, salted or not.

I have a few bags of both styles of Trick Worms and they all sink.  The difference in rate seems to be more related to solid vs laminate vs glitter.  But its pretty minor at best.

That might be the worm I'm thinking of. Do they come in pink and white? Cause the worms I remember came in pink and white and were used in the 80's during BASS tourneys during high water times in flooded cover. They were used with a bare hook and allowed to flutter down then twitched.

Trick worms don't float. I tried them. Even if you just drop them in a sink by themselves with no hook or line they fall.

Like other said, Z Man floats the hook. Theirs is called ZinkerZ. All their baits that is made with ElaZtech will float. Strike King makes one also, it is the same worm as the ZMan worm.
