Hogsticker Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Howdy. Looking for opinions on good, sharp hooks to use for Neko rigging mostly Fish Arrow flashy J type baits and a few worms in the mix. Sizes would be helpful too. I'll be finishing mostly rock for smallmouth. Does this rig get hung any better or worse than a typical jig head? I would think you could pop it loose most of the time, being it only has a small nail weight inserted. Any tips, tricks and general advice would be most appreciated. This will be my new technique challenge for 2017. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted June 3, 2017 Super User Posted June 3, 2017 I have fished it a little this spring and had some good results. I was using 6" Robos and 6" Jelly Worms. For hooks I have used both 1/0 Robo Rebar hooks, a needle point, and Trokar 1/0 Finesse hooks, a cutting point. Both seem to work but the Trokars both snag more and seem to get better hooksets. While the Neko does seem to catch well, it also attracts an endless parade of sunfish to peck at the tails. The Jelly Worms seem to be the worst about it. At least with the Ned or a slider rig I can have the satisfaction of catching them, but the sunnies never seem to be able to be hooked. Quote
Hot Rod Johnson Posted June 4, 2017 Posted June 4, 2017 I have just recently bought some of the VMC Ike Approved Neko Hook's, it is built specifically for the "Finesse Technique of Neko-Rigging"... It's forged with a "Three-Degree Offset" for an improved hook-up ratio, the VMC Ike Approved Neko Hook features a long shank and a wide-gap that imparts the "Ideal Vertical Posture". Finished with a resin-sealed eye for increased dependability... They are a little on the expensive side but seem to work well on the Colorado River System for Smallmouth Bass in the Lake Havasu City area... I was fishing a 5" Yamamoto Pro Senko in the colors of Green Pumpkin w/ Green & Purple Flake, Morning Dawn, and Pumpkin w/ Black & Green Flake...
