I did a couple searches and couldn't find anything definitive.   Does anyone know if any of the Daiwa SV spools,  like the one from an SV105, will fit a Pixy?

Thanks,

Unfortunately not. I put a ray's studio diy spool in mine.

I guess maybe I think differently, but why put an SV spool in a Pixy, what you would end up with is something similar to the  Daiwa Sol or SV105.    I have always felt what makes the Pixy different is that it has a free, fast spool, not so controlled by braking.    Eh, maybe it's just me.....

Yea, I am coming around to that line of thinking, but I would still buy a SV spool for mine just to see how it casted.  Between the stock spool, the DIY ones, and a SV option, you would have a ton of options.

And besides, while I do love my pixy, my thumb still fails me often enough to make casting it kinda expensive :P

Got a beautiful Sol with an SV105 spool, 6.8:1 gears, fast level wind and bearing, handle and knobs, upgraded drag, all the dress up parts.  Get ready to part with your Pixy, maybe we can work out a deal.

Hah, I like the little guy too much to part with him, he keeps me humble.  Most of my other reels have SV spools and I sometimes think I have better thumb control then I actually do.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the sound of that Sol

It's all good, I would have a hard time parting with my Sol, put too much money it now to really get rid of it.

Enjoy that Pixy, they were the Kings of finesse for a good long time.

I just bought a second purple Alphas that im going to mod like your Sol, mooneyes.  I know its going to be awesome.   But i don't foresee it replacing my beloved little pixzilla.  Ive got an SV105, and a Steez 103 with a Zillion SV spool in it, but that pixy is still my favorite.

Love the purple 103, they were probably the first JDM reel that most Daiwa lovers were able to get their hands on.   Post a pic or two when you get her all finished up.

The only thing I have not done to my Sol is to add the longer crank shaft to support the clicking drag star, have thought about it several times but it just does not make that much difference to me so I have held off.   Probably get bored this winter and do it to fight the cabin fever.

Honestly I don't miss a clicker.  I picked up a Finesse Special for a song on ebay and, once I replaced the pads, the drag is smooth as silk in both pullout and the star movement.  It does not seem to slip at all and I really feel like I can be more slow and even in upping it to fight a fish.  It really seems to help in landing larger bass on light line with a BFS rod.

Why the F over a 103 or a Finesse Special?

I think I am going to start a small collection of the less rare Alphas variants.  They are by far the most comfortable reels I have used and I am really getting into them.

Alphas platform definitely the best palming platform. Nothing beats a Steez in quality, tolerances, performance and fun imo. Especially the SV TW. Personally, I can't handle not having a clicking drag star. The cast control cap I don't mind.

I have never fished or even held a Steez but have stopped looked for a good deal on one.  The used prices on the Alphas reels (or at least the common ones) are so good for the quality of reel you get, it's insane.  I have been looking around for a good, solid inexpensive reel for a pair of MH rods I picked up for my kayak.  I think at this point I am just going to hunt up a pair of alphas 103's and tune them up as needed.  They are gonna look weird on green rods, but such is life.

How are the Megabass Alphas variants?  I don't hear much about them.

The Pixy WAS king for fishing small baits on light line, nowadays it's completely obsolete, I got 3, wouldn't sell them because I like them, but there are other reels that will perform the same task and won't have the limitations the Pixy has, an Alphas/Sol with a SV spool would humble any Pixy.

Thats because zondas are outlandishly expensive.

On in the horrible, horrible day my NRX dies and they can only give me a blue one (it is green now) on Wildcard trade-in, my PXLR is going all sky blue to match.  I love that reel so much, it's my only non-shimano. With how perfectly it palms and balances, I dare not dip my toe in the Alde pool either despite all the sexy
