Turkey sandwich Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 So, cartooning my Lure 13.5 is a pretty exhausting venture and always requires help. I also drive a sedan that gets totally packed with fishing and kayak gear anytime I head out on the water. I was wondering if any of you have lightweight trailer suggestions that would make loading/unloading much, much easier. It would also be really helpful if there would be a way to store some of my gear on the trailer instead of my in my car. I'm looking into having a trailer hitch installed, but I drive an A4 that isn't exactly designed for towing bass boats, so a big, heavy trailer is definitely not an option. Thoughts? Suggestions? Posted June 1, 2017 Super User Posted June 1, 2017 I was just watching a YouTube vid of a guy that had a "cheap" motorcycle trailer that he converted to tow his Hobie PA, and it was wide enough to have a toolbox (like back of truck) on the other side where he stored his gear. adrenalnjunky Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I'm sitting here looking at a Harbor Freight sale flyer - their 4x8 folding trailer kit is advertised at $259. 12" wheels and 1200ish lb capacity. I built one years ago to turn into a box trailer. Super light and tows well. 1 Quote

adrenalnjunky Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Everything he said is accurate as far as it pulls. I'll also add that for a small trailer it backs up nicely well. Not all of them do, and nothing irritates me more than a short-coupled trailer that likes to jackknife. I put the same or similar trailer jack on as his, upgraded to LED lighting (might be standard now - there was a recall on the trailer lighting and they sent out a new light kit for remediation, the replacements were LED.) The way he has it rigged with the stake pockets, you could build yourself removable sides for transporting other stuff. Quote

Then lust some metal cross bars, wrapped with pool noodles. Finish with two cam lock straps. My buddy actually has his set up with two tiers of cross bars, and can carry six kayaks at once. 2 Quote

Id offer space in my garage but its already filled up with my new kayak, which i didnt think a 10 footer would take so much room and with so much crap my daughter has. where are you going to store it? I keep a lot of gear at my mom's house outside of Wilkes-Barre. It makes a lot of sense since I'm on the Susquehanna most weekends I'm free and the weather isn't awful. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 8, 2017 Super User Posted June 8, 2017 I have a sportsrig trailer myself. I looked at the harbor freight deals and wasn't impressed. I went with a trailer designed for kayaks etc.. instead of a utility trailer designed for having heavier loads. This one uses motorcycle suspension and larger tires to handle lighter weight loads with no bouncing around. They aren't cheap by any means but i have zero complaints with mine and can see it lasting a long time. 2 Quote
