Theres a small local lake i know of that has pike for sure. How could I possibly locate and catch these fish. It is a shallow weedy lake

Not an easy question to answer. Depends on a lot of factors. What is the depth of the lake and clarity? Where is the weed edge closest to the main channel? Are you fishing from shore or boat? What kind of equipment are you using? What size of pike are inhabiting the lake?

Pike up to about 9 lbs., are to be considered a warm water fish, choosing similar cover/weedy ambush points as LM bass. Pike over that weight become cool to cold water fish, preferring to suspend in open water basins, under and following large schools of bait (trout, yellow perch, etc.). Which are you targeting? These two grouping sizes of pike are almost different species from each other, in their habits, location and forage base.

If you just want to catch a pike, not caring which group size you are targeting, then you may want to try casting a bass frog over the top of semi-open weed edges. That'll get you a lot of "hammer handles" in a hurry. If it's a trophy you are after, then you must consider trolling deeper weedlines with a variety of large deep diving crankbaits and/or musky size in line bucktail spinners. Without more information, that's about the best advice I can give you.

If the lake has a spring try to find that and cast around that when the water gets warm.

I realize how vague this post was. Its a shallow weedy bass lake with plenty of weeds and ambush points. I plan to fish from kayak or canoe. I had a 6' 6" medium Ugly Stik but I'm replacing it with a 7' medium veritas 2.0 for more sensitivity and it's also lighter. The lake is relatively shallow, probably no deeper than 15'.  I know there are some huge pike in there so i will post pics if/when i get one. Thanks for the help!

Take out your favorite bass lure that you only have one left of, and its discontinued, tie that on dont use a leader and you will be guaranteed to at least get bit by a pike.:sad1:

Pike aren't pests...

A lot of folks who say things like that insist on fishing water where pike live for bass and walleye without prepping for them.  Leaders work wonders...

when they get into a pond and eat all other fish, they are definitely pests. I had that happen in a great bass and bluegill pond. it's not their fault they have to eat but still sad to see a population of healthy bass and bluegills get decimated by a pike. (or 7)

they only smell bad in the summer where I live. Something I've always wondered about but no one seems to have an answer to why.

Pike arent really a pest in most places, certain states on West Coast class them as invasive, they wreak havoc on young salmon. Parts of Alaska have bounty programs for pike.

They're definitely pests in the land of 10,000 lakes.  Some central Minnesota lakes are so over run with them that the DNR is implementing a 10 fish daily bag limit.

Just troll the weed line with basically any bait. I like a spinner bait with a a 4 to 6 " boot tail swim bait trailer.
