dsqui Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Found a used alpha air at local shop for $120 What would something like this be used for it only holds 50 meters of line that doesn't seem like alot Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 1, 2017 Super User Posted June 1, 2017 Very small finesse baits. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 1, 2017 Super User Posted June 1, 2017 This is an ultra finesse reel. That 50m capacity is with 6# diameter line. That's plenty for that purpose. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted June 2, 2017 Super User Posted June 2, 2017 I understand that the air uses a different spool than all the other alphas so swapping to the many options available will be a no go. Dont know if your into mods or have any other plans to change the reel. Quote
dsqui Posted June 2, 2017 Author Posted June 2, 2017 Sounds like the reel is not for me thanks guys Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted June 2, 2017 Super User Posted June 2, 2017 How are they in general? I love the Alphas platform, I love finesse fishing, so it seems right up my alley, but I have never read much about them one way or the other. Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted June 3, 2017 Super User Posted June 3, 2017 Huh. I was looking at it as a salt-friendly replacement for a PX68. The PX is currently on a trout rod that sees 90% of it's use in brackish water and it often gets totally soaked. I keep up with cleaning it, but I know it isnt a good idea long term. I would also like to move the PX68 to a rod I would use more often, I only really go after perch/panfish/trout a few dozen times a year. I am also really getting into the Alphas platform in general and was thinking of starting a small collection of them, so the Air would be a good addition that would also fill a practical role. But if even a bearing change will not let it cast tiny 1/16-1/8 spinners, it isnt much use to me. Quote
Hogsticker Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 The Alphas Air is a kick butt little reel. Just like the SV with a lighter, more shallow spool. A solid bfs reel that can cast 1/16 oz no sweat. What's not to like? Quote
