Berkley MH 7' Lightning Shock Rod

Abu Garcia RVO3 SX-HS Low Profile 7:1:1 Reel

It will definitely work but you might find the shock series to have a little too soft of a tip for froggin. The original lightning's might be better. I also really like Berkeley cherry woods for an inexpensive rod it does well. I have 2 shock rods and both only get used for treble hook baits at the moment.

Thanks for the tip.

Unfortunately, I already purchased the Lighting, but the reel is being shipped ie. I might return it for something more optimal. I was also considering an Abu Garcia Vengeance being it was $10 more than the Lightning, or maybe I should spend a little more and go for a Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 MH 7'-7'6 Frog Rod?

Never owned a vengeance but have picked them up a few times myself at Walmart. Never seemed much better than the cherrywoods to me at half the cost. I have and really like my veritas 2.0. Abu has been running sales on them lately so you might keep an eye out and get a deal.

I wouldn't return the shock rod as it makes a good crankin stick/treble hook top water IMO. Will work for frogs I just think you might not like how they feel on the hook set.

Have caught hundreds of quality sized bass with the following setup;

6-7 foot heavy action rod

30 pound test braid

Live Target hollow belly frog,Booyah pad crasher frog, etc

Purchased a 7'6" MH Abu Garcia Veridas 2.0 Frog Series rod from tacklewarehouse today. Never used anything more than a 7' rod so I'm interested in seeing how this guy works out!Kept the shock rod as it stands well for other types of fishing-and couldn't justify returning it being I bought it on sale for only $30.00.

I use the 7ft medium heavy shock rod for frogging. Its perfect, the tip is not soft on that model. Its actually a little underrated. Its more of a heavy fast rod. Mine has been frogging for 3 seasons strong

Abu's tend to run a little heavier than their rating so I think it will be a good frog rod. I have a 7'6 HF Vendetta and it's a pool cue, which I like, but I think a MH will be more versatile and still be a great frog rod.

Awesome. I frogged with the 7'3" MH Veritas last year, it worked great. Love those rods

No need to change a thing. Great set up for many applications.
