Looking for a new boat and have it narrowed down...Ranger 198p and Xpress 19 pro.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thank you

I don't have experience with either but, I have a buddy who has an X19 with a 175 Yammie. I ran into him a couple months ago at the ramp and he was with a buddy of his on a 198 with a 150 Etec. He said there is no comparison. His biggest complaints about the Ranger were shallow storage lockers, not a lot of leg room at the console (he's 6'5") and that its tippy.

Tippy? My 188 is not tippy at all even being smaller.

Cant speak to depth of compartments i do not know the express setup but the 188 holds all my crap with room to spare.

Bet if you asked the Ranger guy he would say no comparison the other way. Both are nice boats, probably best to take a direct look at each.

The only experience I have is with the Xpress X19 Exclusive Series with a Yamaha 200 V MAX SHO®.

Excellent throttle response in rough water ;)

I wanted the Xpress but no dealers near me. liked the Ranger and was ready to order one until I saw the Crestliner PT 18. heavier gauge aluminum and more storage than I need. huge 33 gal. livewell. with the wide beam and no pad this boat is not for speed demons, but fishability is second to none.

Not to thread jack - but the main choices in aluminum bass boats appear to be : Crestliner , G3 , Ranger , Tracker and Xpress . Perhaps the tougher decision (where offered) is : 18 ' or 19 ' version within the same series ?

There's another option - Lund 1875 (pictured) & 2075 Pro-V Bass is an aluminum IPS2 Hull - Solid, Stable & Very Capable.

The Lund renegade1875 is also a pretty good aluminum boat, more in line with the RT188 or crestliner vt series

In the end I went with the Ranger 198p.  I am very satisfied with my decision.  It is a fishing machine with enough storage for 16 rods, loads of tackle, and very economical with the mercury 150 four stoke.  Fully loaded she will top out at 60 and has a very solid and stable ride.  Also upgraded to the minn Kota ultrex 80 with i pilot and will be adding a power pole this spring.  For electronics - Humminbird helix 10 on the bow and Humminbird helix 10 si in the console.

Very nice boat. Could you do me a favor. Would you measure the dimensions of the step going up to the front deck. I know it is cut at an angle so it is longer in the rear than the front. What I need is the measurements for both lengths, the width and how high the step is above the carpet.  Also how high the deck is. My front deck is 12 inches above the cockpit floor, so I think I want a step that is 6 or 7 inches high total

I am interested simply because I am about to have my fabricator build me one and install it on my Lowe.  It will be the same width front and back because I do not have dual consoles, so I do not need to conserve space there. He will build an aluminum framed box with a cut out on top. Then mount it, to the floor. We are going to install a deck hatch and liner from Tempress.  They are designed to be walked or stood on, gasketed to keep your stuff dry and lockable.

Why not get a http://gatortraxboats.com/strike-series/

Better than either of those options.

There is also crestliner, alumacraft, lund.....

If you were choosing between either of those two IDK never ridden in either. I have sat in the Ranger and hated it 6'3" barely could squeeze in.
