If we're talking burgers now, I've yet to have a burger that beats a Five Guys burger. Cheese, bacon, onions, mushrooms and jalapeños.

Well I lied.  No Costco dog today.  Chik-Fil-A nugets!

I had the spicy chicken combo saturday!

A hot dog only requires sweet relish and spicy mustard. As for a burger,it's bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and mayo.Oh and it has to have some pink.

You guys with the pink, undercooked burgers...not the gamble I'm willing to take. Pink in a steak is ok, but pink in a burger is dangerous.

Best dog, chilli dog to be exact, is here in Toledo, Tony Packos. And the best burger ive ever had is Five Guys

I've had 5 Guys.  Very very good.  Super Duper is better.

Has anyone had Whataburger?

In order to have your burger medium rare you have to know something out the management

and reputation of the restaurant. I look for a 100% score by the city's health inspectors and

the meat must be processed daily on site. Medium rare does not mean raw.

You would also need to know the farm where it came from and the steps in between. With hamburger, what was once on the outside of the meat is now on the inside.

I agree. This is the way I like my dogs.

Well, perhaps I'm in the minority, but i usually only have

ketchup on my hot dog. I'm a hot dog minimalist, I suppose.

No peppers, relish, onions, or any other stuff graces my

food. Perhaps chili and cheese, but not regular.

And @J Francho, I think the terms hot dog and franks have been

intermingled over the year that to most people, they're one and

the same, but to purists, not so much.

I'll admit, Rochester, NY has its share of awesome hots/franks.

Tried many of the brands. Fan of Zweigles. Still waiting for a

Wegmans in our area. Stupid politics ixnayed them out of a

perfect spot here. Unsure if they'll keep trying or not.

My youngest like ketchup only on his dogs.

Zweigles red hots, and Zimmerman's porkers are best in class, if you ask my grandfather.  For years, I thought the white hots I was eating at the restaurant were Zweigles.  Turns out they are Zimmerman's, despite all the signs to the contrary.  Not sure if that's still true.  I'm not sure why meat in casing is so big here, but there's a lot of places still making it.  My great grandfather ran a kosher deli in a storefront attached to Rochester meats, on Meigs and S. Clinton, in the Swillburg neighborhood, which was made up of primarily meat processing businesses.  We know our hot dogs.

5 Guys burgers are pretty good, but I'm still a fan of In-N-Out Burger, especially their fries.  Haven't tried Whataburger yet.

Robert, have you been to Val's in Hayward? They're still making burgers and shakes like it was the 50's and still only take cash...

George's King of Hot Dogs in Fall River, MA.  Coney Island style hot dogs.  Haven't been there in decades.  After cruising around in our teenage years, my best friend and I would stop in and order six hot dogs each.  They were only fifteen cents per, back in the day.  Charley would line up the dozen on his sweaty arm and apply the condiments which were diced onions, mustard, and a secret meat sauce.  Charley would use, what looked like a tongue depressor for the meat sauce and onions, and what looked like a popsicle stick for the mustard.

Nothing fancy about the joint.  School desks were lined up against one wall facing the counter.  No Coca Cola or Pepsi "tonics".  Nesbitts orange soda was the mainstay.  You could also get Nehi grape or root beer.

Total 95 cents for each of us, 90 for the dogs and a nickel for the soda.

Rumor has it that the board of health made him cease and desist from lining the dogs up on his arm some time in the past forty plus years.

There's a place near Niagara Falls, Ted's Texas Hots that serves Coney hots - foot long, unsplit, natural casing.  Wood fired char pit, they only use tongs handle the dogs. They have ketchup and mustard for condiments that you spread on your dog with a wooden stick.  Place is awesome.

Probably the best eat-out hamburger I've ever had is from a local ( jax ) joint called Charlie's diner. It's huge .The one I get is the bacon burger which is fresh ground and mixed up with bacon ( not just bacon on top ) Charlie's is owned by Peter Thliverous ( known as Peter T.),who is a well known bass pro. I'm sure Lonnie g. Would agree. You can get the burger with tater tots and a good ole glass of sweet tea.But it fills me up for hours afterwards.

Another one in the running is the bison burger from Ted's Montana grill.I get mine with cheddar cheese, grilled onions, and bacon. It is absolutely delicious.( For 15.00 a pop it better be !)

As for hot dogs, home grilled for me,usually ball park.

I like a great hamburger as much as anybody. If I'm going out to buy a burger, I'm going to have fries with it. Even if the burger is great, if the fries are bad, I'm going elsewhere. Five Guys burgers are OK, but those greasy, limp, fresh cut, French fries are just the worst.  No more Five Guys for me. I like Fuddruckers a lot. Good meat, buns are baked right there, and you can load up the toppings yourself. Their seasoned potato wedges are very good. Because they have the toppings bar, I can put diced onions on my fries. I can't do that at any other place I've ever been.

If you ever get up by Cabelas in Hoffman Estates, stop by the Assembly. Only about 10 minutes away.

You could totally ask for this at my family's place.  They'll even put sauteed onions (or even peppers and onions) on them if you want.  Most non chain places will do whatever you want, , so long as they have the ingredients and you ask.  Pro Tip: for crispy fries, ask for them well done.  This ensures your fries are freshly cooked, separately.

Let's set aside any "custom" restaurant burgers,

I like to try burgers where ever I travel and compare them to...  Five Guys.

Sure,  there are a lot of great burgers out there.  Everyday,  day in and day out...   Five Guys.
