Enjoying the finer things in life

With the amount of folks on here that like to use very high end gear I'm assuming you also like to have/use/consume the finer things that are offered to us. I am a fan of quality over quantity. I do enjoy and appreciate the efforts made by companies to make an excellent product but I'm also reasonable with my purchases.  

 

For instance, I like watches and my collection has been moving in the same direction as my fishing gear. Started off with citizen, bulova and seikos, then victorinox, tissot. Now going in the direction of Hamilton and longines but I think I'll stop in that range of watches and stay away from omega/Rolex etc.

 

I guess with any hobby or collection your taste will eventually move you upward in that endeavor as your love for it increases. Bait monkey spirit lives in all things for sure!

 

I'm not as indulgent as others or need to be. This isn't meant to be a bragging or **** size competition, just curious to see what others like to indulge in. here's a few of mine:

 

steez/Loomis and the like. 

Johnny walker blue.

tom ford colognes. Creed if all goes well with the split coming in.

benchmade knives.

taylor acoustics.

ernie ball family reserve,

mesa and Bogner amps.

kobe beef.

There was a moment, once, while eating a Wagyu NY strip, I wondered if it was ridiculous that I was eating a $130 piece of meat.  I decided, instead, that the $15 asparagus side was over priced and went on to enjoy my night with Padron 64 and several glasses of Lagavulin 16.

 

Seriously, though, I think quality has it's place, but so is knowing simply what you want.   A lot of people get like this with Brazilian jiu-jitsu gis and will spend $300+ per gi.  I've ordered mine from a company that I just like for the past 12 years just because I like the fit.  Ultimately, it's a matter of simply taste with a lot of things.  Sometimes I feel like a bottle of Lagavulin 16 (Johnny Walker blue, while good, isn't really my taste in whisky), but I also regularly drink Wild Turkey 101.

I agree $15 for asparagus is ridiculous!

I agree with the quality over quantity.  Buy one nice, well made item once rather than several of lesser quality and in the end you'll actually spend less money.

Interesting thread. Here is my input:

 

I have a friend who is an outstanding bass fisherman who uses all low end products, from his Wal-Mart throw away reels to the cheapest rods. If one breaks he throws them away and gets another.

 

Another friend is hooked on Steetz. Steez rods and reels. Nothing else will do. He is also an excellent bass fisherman.

 

I think we are all in-between these two guys with our buying practices.

 

I have G. Loomis rods that are great but I still love the old BPS Extreme rods. I am into Shimano reels with a few other brands such as Lew's.

 

Personally, I don't care what brands or how much you paid for your tackle. Only confidence in it is what counts. And the bass have no idea if you are using a Zebco or a Steez.

I know I am.

 

I Just broke a brand new rod by getting it caught in a door as it closed. Didn't realize it until I got to the river and took off the rod sleeve. It was a $40 rod I got on clearance for $15 so I wasn't to upset. Now think if that was a Steez...my blood pressure would have went high enough for them to hospitalize me for sure.

 

While fear of accidental breakage is not a great reason for not choosing the finer things in life it's good enough for me.

Its cheap, but I think Natural Light beer tastes better than the higher end beer.

the only "finer" thing I have is a 1975 Gibson Les Paul gold top. the rest of my stuff is perfect for me.

Impossible. Natural light has no taste.

My ex-brother in-law used to put his beer in the back window of his car where it would get hot so no one would ask him for any.
