Nice catch man. Really nice. Well, I said I wasn't going to try but the father-n-law and I said what the heck. So we went out late this afternoon into the early night. We were lucky to have left when we did. Storm came up in a hurry but it was nice. Left the Triton home and took the 18' out for the first time since we gave it an overhaul. The running lights we installed were great! I see more night fishing on the horizon 3 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 I sat back and read about the foolishness on the lake from the comfort of my Bark-o-lounger. I saw a grounding and a boat fire by noon via the internet. Weather was iffy as well so I didn't need any more encouragement to stay off the water. It's going to be busy until fall now. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 If I fish any of the "busy" holidays...IE Memorial day, fathers day, 4th of July, and Labor day. I get there early, and try to be off the water by noon. I fished Sat afternoon, and Sunday AM this weekend. Boat traffic was minimal Sat, but by 9:45 Sunday was already getting stupid. I elected not to go yesterday, but not because of boat traffic, but because fishing has SUCKED bad here the last few weeks. I found better things to do like clean guns, reload ammo, and take a nap. May you get well soon Took my son and 2 grandsons out for some bank fishing for a couple hours at a local park. Was awesome...hooked three bass...landed one keep. Wore out the bluegill....wore out.....they loved it. Storm came....we left 2 Quote
Captain America Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 My family went to a super busy beach town in here in Michigan (boardwalk, shops everywhere, most popular beach for people in my city etc.) and I decided to try my luck in the channel. I was hoping for some smallies, but I ended up with a whole bunch of freshwater drum, a sub 14 inch smallie and a nice largemouth. I had a boat coming in from lake michigan stop to watch me land the LM and another crowd of people watching behind me on the pier. I havent measured a fish in a year or so, but I believe that this is my PB bass. 5 Quote

It looks narrower than it really was. It is definitely a drum (we usually call them sheepshead). Maybe they look a little different in great lakes systems. These channels are littered with them, they are a blast to catch and they eat absolutely anything (ie my tube). People even target them up here with little cleos, though they are still considered a junk fish. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 Holiday weekends are times to fish out of the way places to avoid the insane amount of boat traffic. For me it was a matter of getting on the river early. Once there I knew everyone would be going left from the dock so I went right. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 I fished a 12 acre lake Friday and Saturday. I was really surprised because I was the only one on it until around 1:00 PM on Saturday. Then I decided to get home before it got too crazy. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 Only fished Sunday afternoon and Monday. I expected a real zoo on Sunday, but people must have either limited out or got tired of trying as there were parking spots left at the landing, with some still parked along the road. Had to wait 20+ minutes to put the boat in the water as some holiday warriors cut in front of me only to park in front of the ramp and load everything in the boat. I got the last laugh though as they forgot to put the plug in. Saw a pontoon run through a stump field and smoke one pretty good. My gf was with and we did a little bass fishing and crappie fishing to keep her reeling something in since it's been a while since the last few trips she's had have been tough. It worked out well as we caught a nice dinner of crappies and she hooked into her new personal best largemouth. She was pretty stoked, and I was happy for her! Sunday afternoon, I went to a little lake that most people don't even know exist. On and off rain and wind made me debate how long I wanted to stay. Managed to get caught in a small thunderstorm that actually hailed on me. It was quick moving though, and passed in about half an hour. I caught a few fish including this sunfish that decided it wanted some of a 7" lizard but nothing special. I did finally get one big girl to come out and play. It was just a half inch shy of tying my pb and made the trip totally worthwhile. All in all a pretty good memorial day weekend. 9 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted June 1, 2017 Super User Posted June 1, 2017 I went out on the home lake at crack of dawn. Fished until 10:15. Caught 2 on my little spinnerbait, 1 on a ultra vibe speed worm, 1 on a zoom Z- hog, and finished by catching 3 on a speed craw. Had to work hard for these fish.Summer is here in N Fla.!!
