Have you seen this weekend that MLF is taking their format to CBS beginning June 24 (2-3p EST) for 6 straight Saturdays. I have seen more bass tournaments being played by this format like the Indy Fishing League and a few others. BASS just did a large Elite event with catch and release using the same digital scales. What do you think? I this the next evolution of tournament fishing?

I hope they all go to this format.

Yeah, they will I think.

That's how we do our weeknight tournaments, just with a 5 fish limit.

I really enjoy this style of tournament. I wouldnt want to see them get rid of the traditional bassmaster style tournaments but I think it would be great if they continued with 5 fish limits but weighed and released the fish immediately. This would mean no more culling or weigh in events. The 5 biggest fish weighed for the day would be your score.

Many might not agree with me on this but with the amount of tournaments and bass anglers these days I think it would be much easier on the bass population. Just my .02 cents

B.A.S.S. realizes the hand writing is on the wall and was the reason they experimented with the Texas event by bringing just 1 bass to the scales for their tradional weigh in.

Without bass to show the arena crowds B.A.S.S. Doesn't have a weigh in program to promote their membership and sponsors.

That's pretty much my take.

I know it irritated you when I highlighted a spelling error in the past, but this response intrigues me because I'm not sure if you meant what you wrote.

Do you believe the format change is being done "defiantly", that it is being changed despite the objections of some higher ups?  Or did you mean "definitely", that it is indeed going that direction?

Either response will work, although the first one implies some inside knowledge that there is a disagreement as to which direction the organization should go.

Definitely it will happen definitely by B.A.S.S. The MLF format changes B.A.S.S. business model.

Definitely

The spelling tells it all.

The word went from defiantly to definitely, and I take everything at face value   :wink7:

It's definitely headed that way, but as Tom pointed out, you can't change the business model too much. I believe you'll see a "happy medium" ultimately down the road, a hybrid format if you will. Exactly what it will look like is hard to say, but the talk I've heard are things like, rounded weights for BassTrakk, no final day BassTrakk, being able to bring 5 bass live to the scale on the final day, etc. Won't be a fast change, but look for some new ideas to be tested during the Classic bracket format event later this year.

There's already one on the market, the Connect Scale.  Ott Defoe uses it.  Retails for like $80 I think.
