Tas1498 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Anybody ever try both and have feedback??? Looking to start changing over to one of these rods. Quote
PaFrogThrower9 Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Fury hands down. I have 2 already and another on the way. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 30, 2017 Global Moderator Posted May 30, 2017 I own rods from both line ups and it's not even a comparison, Okuma all day. Very easy to find the TCS for around the same price as the Fury or even a little less. They do seem to run a tad lighter than rated imo, just to keep that in mind. Nothing wrong with the Fury, just not on the same level as the TCS. I watched a Fury break on the cast a couple weeks ago. Don't know if anything to it previously, but the guy I was fishing with takes good care of his stuff, seemed to be a pretty odd break. 1 Quote
dsqui Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 For me it would be the fury. I have not handles the ok ima so this is solely based on availability around me. I have to handle the rod before i can buy it im veru picky about reel seats. On the rod that broke I know dobyns has very good customer service and a good warranty. Quote

Super User Montanaro Posted May 30, 2017 Super User Posted May 30, 2017 I have both. Caught good fish on both. The okuma looks a bit more high end whereas fury is more barebones. The fury is slightly lighter. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Not even a fair comparison imo. The Okuma hands down. More sensitive and better feel overall. And as far as the fury being lighter.... No way! I weighed the 704 at around 5.7oz. It's slightly better balanced so it feels lighter maybe. And yes i have owned and used both. Most that will vote for one or the other have only handled one or the other.... 1 Quote

Super User Columbia Craw Posted May 31, 2017 Super User Posted May 31, 2017 I have compared both models and own three Furys. The Okuma is a good rod. It might be just right for you. The actions feel slower than my Furys, sensitivity is moot. The skeleton grip handle system is an absolute deal breaker for me. I do not like it at all regardless of what brand. You might very well have a win win on your plate. Quote
Brewstl Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 Personally I like the tcs. I use the frogging/swimbait model because let's face it, Scott Martin knows his frogs. Like others have said, they are a bit softer than rated. I wouldn't by any means say they lose backbone. Just a little bit more forgiving rod. Martin himself said its intentional because it's all about keeping that fish pinned. When it it comes to names like dobyns, st. croix, loomis, and such, I personally feel like you are buying a name and letting your mind play tricks on you until you get into their higher dollar models. There are lots of companies out there doing everything in their power to make a really great rod for less. Take 13 and their sister no. *** for instance. They are pumping out nasty products for cheap. I owned a st. Croix mojo bass. Nothing wrong with it. But I'd rather have the *** that tackle warehouse has been closing out for months now. I know you aren't asking about them but I think you get the point. If you want a phenomenal rod, keep saving and get something from dobyns or someone in hat league that you will KNOW is better. Otherwise, be confident that the guys like okuma in that 100 dollar range are working hard at getting your business and building their reputation still. 1 Quote
Tas1498 Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 Well I ordered a Fury on Monday before seeing all this wanted it here before the weekend lol. A buddy of mine uses the tcs rods so I'll be able to compare them side by side. Quote

Both of them are rods that have been out for a while and the reviews are positive and accurate for both. I had a Dobyns Champion xp Flip not long ago and liked it but decided I didn't do enough actual flipping to justify holding onto it. I started doing my lighter flipping on the frogging tcs i talked about before and I turned around and picked up one of the G-rod game changers. I usually have 5 rods on me so versatility is key somewhere in my selection. And I put my money where the majority of my fishing techniques are. I'm sure ou will be happy with your choice no matter what. Quote
