MuddyCreekBassin' Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 Desparately need a finesse setup. Current one is a $12 Shakespeare combo from Walmart bought in 2012 and it's been so hot in Texas bass are getting lazy and going deep. Unless the new St. Croix Bass X is just awesome, I'm gonna be stuck between a Duckett Micro Magic Pro and a G-Loomis E6X spinning setup. Most likely paired with a light as possible reel and like 6-8lb InvizX fluoro. Open to suggestions for the reel. Rig will be used for everything light from weightless wacky rigs and drop shots to the little 3" Z-Man T.R.D. shakey head things, and needs to last a long time since I plan on trying to get into TAMU Kingsville or Lamar University within the next 2 years. Will be trying to join their respective fishing teams. Quote
bassinick Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 hey man, between those two I would choose the micro magic.. ive fished the micro magic and held both, the micro magic being alot lighter and is very sensitive making it better for your finesse tactics. ive never felt the e6x sensitivity but they arbt known for it. i would recommend the e6x for more rugged bass fishing.. ill throw one out there.. the powell max 3d.. the only length in spinning they have is 7'1.. but they are incredibly sensitve and very light. But between the two i would choose the micro magic. Quote
MuddyCreekBassin' Posted May 29, 2017 Author Posted May 29, 2017 Yeah I know Powell makes some crazy light rods. And I've heard good things about the higher end ducketts. For the reel I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and try to find a lightly used Shimano Stradic ci4 1 Quote

I think the E6X label as not as sensitive is "inaccruate". Although I will say not as sensitive as my "Zodias" rods, but I wouldn't say "lacking by a lot". The knock I have on the E6X is the weight, but the right reel makes that go away. I have my MBR 843C paired with a Chronarch 50MG and balances well but didn't feel "awesome", I used/paired it with a Chronarch E6 during a pike derby this weekend and caught a few on it. I worked that combo the most out of the 3 I had, probably 50% of the time (7 hours of the total 14). It felt great, although I like light, I feel balance is more important. Balance though is also "preference" because for tip down presentations, I like the setup to be a little tip heavy. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 29, 2017 Super User Posted May 29, 2017 I am curious how you came to those two rods? For around the $200 range I would look at an ALX Zolo B or a Kistler KLX or a Hammer series rod or Shimano Zodias rod. TW has there 15% off sale going on right now so even if something is touch over $200 it should be close or under $200 with the sale depending upon which model rod you end up with. I personally would get the Loomis between the two as I think their rods fish better and look better than Ducketts but then again my only Loomis rods are IMX and above. Quote

However I don't think the sale can be applied to Shimano? Quote

It shows as an "excluded" brand but from my past dealings everything will generally get discounted once your transaction is processed with the exception of anything Megabass. Last time I ordered some baits I purchased a few RI and LC baits. They were not discounted when I went to the check out but when they processed the order they appeared to be at that time. When in doubt I would call to be certain and place the order over the phone. The HookUpTackle is usually the same way... Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 29, 2017 Super User Posted May 29, 2017 I would not hesitate buying the e6x. I have three and they do fine. You could also look for a used glx and be in heaven 1 Quote
Super User Further North Posted May 29, 2017 Super User Posted May 29, 2017 Understanding that you are looking towards spinning gear, here's an option: After breaking my BFS rod last year...then found they quit making the rod...I replaced it with a St. Croix Avid X. I've got it rigged with an Abu Garcia LTX, 30# Suffix 832 to a leader of 7# Lake Forks co-poly. The rig is so light and sensitive that I can tell when a fish is thinking about hitting the bait... I'm obviously kidding a bit, but it's super sensitive, I can detect the slightest touch. Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 29, 2017 Super User Posted May 29, 2017 A good spinning outfit is more about the reel then the rod. I would look at MajorCraft Iovino finesse rod with Shimano Stractic Ci4 size 2000 reel, the combo about $350. Tom Quote

Bought it at the beginning of the season last year...really like it...on my Avid X, with line on the spool, I think the whole rig weighs in at less than 10.5 ounces. I had it on A St. Croix Rage last year...there's a topic here someplace about that...but I broke that rod in August...replaced with a regular Avid...blank was a little soft for me - found th Avid X last month, really like it. PaFrogThrower9 Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 My finesse rod is a 7ft M Duckett Ghost. Love it. Crazy light and sensitive. Didn't break the bank either. Quote

Nice. I bought mine last spring as well and put it on a G. Loomis NRX MBR 842c. Spooled with 10# Seaguar Red Label. Light as a freakin' feather and I can feel everything with it. And it casts a 1/16 ounce jig head and small grub with ease. Quote
