I am new to bait casters, can a 6.4:1 be uses for crankbaits?

Yes it can, personally for deep divers I prefer a slower reel like 5:1

Any reel can be used for cranks, it's mostly personal preference what you choose to use. I use 5.0, 5.2, and 6.2 depending on the type of cranks I'm using.

Yes, but if you are deep cranking large lures for long periods, it might be a tad fast. I have a couple of 4.7:1 and 5.3:1 reels that I use for cranking, slow rolling, and when I really want to slow myself down.
