bassguytom Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Is there anything you can do to get these to wobble instead of spinning. I tied 3 on before I could find one that didn't just spin. Any experience on this would be great. Quote
wdp Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I've used Scrounger heads quite a bit & never had that problem. Mostly use the 1/8 & 3/16 oz, but have used a 1/4 oz few times too. I usually use a Lake Fork Live Magic Shad on them. What soft plastic trailer were you using? Maybe that was the issue. If you had it rigged on straight, not sure what the problem might be. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 28, 2017 Super User Posted May 28, 2017 As a veteran member of The Scrounger Club, I will say that the following three factors can contribute to the bait spinning rather than running correctly and they are all related to one another. 1. The size of the bill - long, medium or short. I use & prefer the long bill exclusively. 2. The type & especially the size of the trailer used. 3. The speed of the retrieve. - these baits perform at their best when worked low & SLOW. Scroungers are sort of tough to fish effectively with a high speed reel. Certainly can be done but I'd probably fall asleep in the middle of the second cast. When you think you're going slow enough - slow down some more. Here's a few of my favorite trailers. A-Jay 5 Quote

That's impressive. I must admit, I'm a scrounger dabbler by your standards. ? But youre right, I only use the long bill too & also fish em slow & steady, kinda like a swimbait. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 29, 2017 Super User Posted May 29, 2017 What can make any Scrounger spin is the collar is on upside down. Scrounger collars or bills always must be positioned upright at 12' o'clock from the line tie eye. The Scrounger is designed to have a soft trailer, don't use it without a trailer of some type, preferably a straight tail in lieu of curl of paddle tails. Tom Quote
