Rodney Smith Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 What is the best braid (brand and size) for casting hollow bodied frogs the furtherest distance? I don't fish lakes with heavy grass, so I don't need super thick braid. I have tried 40 and 50 lb (Power Pro Super Slick, Smackdown, Sunline BX2). I haven't tried Sunline FX2 Froggin' and Flippin'. Super User NHBull Posted May 27, 2017 Super User Posted May 27, 2017 If you have tried all of them and not been happy with the results, it may be your setup...... You can get a pony spool (75) yards of Gamma for short money if you want to try one more 2 Quote

It's more likely the rod or reel you're using or the reel adjustment. I use 20 lb power pro super slick and am happy with my distance. I throw my frogs on a 7' MH with a Revo and it works great. Rodney Smith Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 I'm not that unhappy with what I am using. I'm just asking what someone with knowledge has found to be the optimal line. Quote
d-camarena Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Optimal id say maxcuatro. At least thats the best ive found. Only downfall its a little noisy Quote
crypt Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 been using original power pro 40-65 lb. test depending on how heavy the cover is. never had a problem. 3 Quote
CroakHunter Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I like daiwa j-braid x4. Can be found in ebay for fairly cheap. Very thin. Casts great. Quote

OnthePotomac Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I have no idea if there is a "best" because everyone has a favorite. In my case it is Sufix 832 in 50lb. An excellent fishable braid. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 50-65# Power Pro or Sufix 832.Its all ave ever needed. Quote
primetime Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 I like Power Pro Plus and most 8 strand braids. I also like the Tuf Line braids. I find I can cast best and have the least issues of line kinking up in lines with 8-10lb diameter. One thing I notice is I can cast further without Micro Guides when using braid. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 28, 2017 Super User Posted May 28, 2017 40lb power pro super slick for me works well. With frog fishing i am rarely concerned with distance because long range hooksets are not as productive for me. Quote
RichF Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 50lb FX2 is incredible braid. My absolute favorite. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted May 28, 2017 Super User Posted May 28, 2017 50 or 65 lb power pro, never found a reason to switch. 2 Quote
Falkus Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Sunline FX2 Froggin is incredible braid line Just love the way it feels Did I just say that I'm about to order some Quote
Dtrombly Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Suffix 832 is my favorite, I also use Power Pro Spectra and it's performed well Quote

Ditto I use a 5 yr old PQ and a Carolina rig specific rod and can launch a Scum frog longer than I'll ever need. OP I know what you're asking, the simplest answer is a high carrier line of your choice, but imho it's not necessary. Mike Quote
jtesch Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 I think Daiwa Samurai might be the best casting braid, it's diameter is smaller than equal weight lines but so is its actual break point. I use it a lot but I'll take Maxquatro or FX2 for frogging Maxquatro does give you that awsome Major league fishing sound though!! Quote

I changed out the drag washers for some carbon ones over the winter and it's still going strong. 1 Quote
