For years I've retied banded skirts with braid by sliding them down, making my wrap and hitting the knot with a drop of super glue.

my question  is about the new "wired skirts". Some I've bought last, others slide down or simply fall apart. Are they worth the expense or should I continue to re-tie my own?

Haven't ordered fron Seibert. Should I?

I solely use skirt that are hand tied, but won't use wire tied.  I feel like when the wire is cut it leaves a small sharp, pointy area, that could cause the fish to reject the bait after sucking it in.

I feel there worth the extra money but i only buy from serbert so i dont know what others are doing.  The wire point thing makes no sense to me because the craws i see and have held in my hand are not smooth and nice.  Never had an issue but some people might not like it???

I wire tie all mine. A wire tied skirt should never slip down, but one tied too tight can fall apart because it can cut the skirt material.

I smash my tag end down but agree with Angry John that most everything a bass eats is pointed or sharp somewhere, they're probably surprised when they eat something and it doesn't stab or cut them a little bit. I do it more for me, grabbing a jig and stabbing a fingertip with a piece of wire hurts.

If the skirt is properly wire tied the end should be folded over and mashed down so there shouldn't be any wire exposed. I make my own stuff and I thread tie a lot of jigs but spinnerbaits I wire tie the skirt but on mass produced baits I've got to see that are hand tied I can't imagine they would slide off. I have never read in any of these forums about wire tied skirts falling down or off of a bait until now so I doubt there is any issue, at least it hasn't happened enough for it to be talked about on a regular basis.

Bands for me.

If I am using a jig properly, there's a good chance I might not get it back when I put it where it needs to be, and going through the trouble of making them all nice and pretty with a hand tied skirt is not worth the effort.

Wired skirts will slide down if too loose, and fall apart if too tight. If done correctly, they work great. I use 24 AWG copper wire, cut it short and fold it over facing aft. Never had sharp points or edges.

Yes, buy Seibert jigs.

If you fish in waters with northern pike, wire is the way to go.  I've had trouble with bands not keeping the skirt in place, but not with wire.  Siebert jigs are very well done, but I avoid the one with the square hook bend, trouble with hook sets.

My main problem with banded skirts is the rubber rots. And rots away PDQ when using some scent products. From what I'm hearing wire ties done right will save me the time I spend re-wrapping my own jigs.

Wire ties = no rotting rubber bands , use wire tie jig skirts with confidence !

Have used Kevlar for years and pretty much will not use a spinnerbait, jig, chatterbait without having been tied.  If I want to slap it on the water I want things to stay in place.  On another note it's enjoyable to me to spend time tying, and fixing up tackle rather than just go to store all the time and just use as is.

What I usually do is buy my favorite spinner bait, or any bait tha thas a skirt on it, and I use some thin copper wiring and just wrap it above the band.

Plus, you can't change it and I like having that option.  Gators are always shredding the strands so they need replacing sometimes.

Bands for me too.

I have yet to have a bass reject sharp pointy things, or I couldn't use hooks if they did.

I just catch more on braid tied skirts vs wire tied, apparently I'm the only one.  In the end, a tied skirt in any fashion is better then any band in my book

Bands for jigs I don't expect to last beyond one trip and wire for things like swim jigs. Now I have been using those turbo style skirts and there are two bands which hold up a lot better. The amber bands are the worst at dry rotting and falling off.
