I'm about ready to purchase a rod dedicated to my deep cranks. 5xd's and 6xd's. Hoping to take advantage of the Memorial Day sales. Got two that I'm looking at right now. A Duckett Ghost 7'6" MH cranking rod and a Abu Garcia 7'6" MH Vertias 2.0 Winch. Opinions? Thanks.

Get the abu.  I don't like the guides on the ghost.

Because cranking alway have the bait moving guides become critical to taking care of your line.  I would choose rhe Abu in this case because of the guides.  Having a ceramic in this senaio is most inportant

Thanks for the suggestions. Also open to other rod suggestions. Wanna keep it under $100 as it's not something I do all the time.

I like these quite a bit - and for the price they are tough to beat.

I found that the 7'6" MH/M Veritas winch was a bit too light for 6xds. I personally use a Dobyn's 806cb, but that's out of your price range. Also, since the Fury is right in your price range, I would NOT recommend it, it's just too light in my opinion.

Isn't that only rated up to 1oz though? Wasn't sure that it would handle the 1oz 6XD.

I'm gonna trying throwing my 6XD on my Dobyns Fury FR765flip and see how it does.

When you're looking to 'make due' - meaning you're not going to invest in technique specific (properly matched) gear, there will always be concessions that have to be made.

My version of how this rods 'handles' a 6XD would be - you'll see better results all around than fishing it on a flipping stick.

YMMV

Powell offers some nice crankbait rods in the Inferno and Max3d lines.  Check out a Inferno 755 CB MH Glass/Composite rod. It normally runs around $110

I really do not think the 765 Flip will be soft enough to keep the treble hooked baits and your fish buttoned up.  I like the rod, but not for that purpose.

I'm just gonna try my 765 Flip cause it's a MH/F which is the lightest of my big rods. Just goofing around today just to see what it does.

I know there will be sacrifices but I don't wanna break it the first time out with it....lol. Half the people say stay within the lure weight recommendations, and half that say ignore it.

I just saw the Fate Chrome Crankbait rod as well. Might have to look into that as an option. Not real familiar with the Fate Chrome rods.

Another thing that takes a few out of the  mix is a full cork handle. Not a fan of them. I like split grips.

btw - I've wouldn't have taken the time to recommend a rod to you that I didn't believe would suit your needs as you stated them

Good Luck

Thanks man. I appreciate your help and opinion. I was at Wal-Mart last night and they had the Tour KVD 7'4"MH and the 7'10"MH on clearance for $75. Didn't pull the trigger though.

You're welcome - that 7'10' is a beefy stick that I use for most stout cranking application.

And that price is pretty decent for what you get.

I might have to grab the 7'10". We'll see.

For $150 get them both and you'll have the vast majority of you're cranking needs covered.

Of course, understand these are glass / composite stick.  They do not cast or fish like a graphite wand - not better or worse, just Effectively different.   I totally prefer it. Other's do not.

But be sure you're good with that before jumping on board on the KVD Cranking Rod Train . . .

Ended up ordering a One Three Fate Chrome 7'3" MH/M cranking rod. Just came yesterday. Haven't used it yet but it's really, really light weight. Feels really good. Looks great too. We'll see how she fishes.

A-Jay thanks for this contribution and awesome pics from about a year ago.  I've been eyeing these rods, which have languished, for years now, at my local Walmart.  They had clearance tags printed in 2014 (!) but still priced around the retail of $150.

Back in 2016, I had seen them at another store for $55, and then they dropped the price to $15 and sold them all before I could go back.

Finally talked the store manager into letting them go for $50 each.  Looking forward to putting a bend in them like the one in your pics.  What an awesome shot.

I really do like them quite a bit; the way they cast Hook, fight & help land fish.

They suit my style.

Good Luck

One three has a pretty cool cranking rod in their *** series, I have one for my deeps and it's relatively inexpensive! Plus the look of the rod is actually really awesome
