I have a size 35 reel that says 10lbs / 155 yards. For a M 6'6" rod as long as I stay in the lure weight range, can I spool it with thin 16 lb mono and not worry about anything?

Silly question is there a way I can take line off one spinning reel to put it on a different reel?

You can spool it with whatever you want.  Use the drag to control the stresses to what you consider reasonable.  However, I don't think 16 pound test mono will perform very well.  Most likely will tend to coil off the spool.  If you want to go over about 10 pound test, I recommend doing it with braid.  15 pound test braid casts beautifully.  You may want to use leaders, but many go straight from braid to the lure and do well.  Use a black marker to make irregular "camo" marks on the last few feet.  With braid you need to be careful of what knot you use, palomar and uni with many loops are good knots for braid.  Test the knot before fishing.

Perfect that helps a lot. I will go with braid. What do you mean use a black marker?

My wife and I fish with many 30 and 35 series reels. I really like to spool about 1/2 of the reel with 12 pound Stren original mono and then fill it up to the proper level with 14 pound Berkley Original Fused FireLine braid.  The 14 pound braid is the same diameter as 6 pound mono.

I also fish with a 4 foot leader made of 8 pound mono or P Line CXX.  I always tie the different lines together using a double Uni Knot and like others have said knots like Palomar, uni knots and even Trilene knots work pretty good.  I set them up this way for several reasons.

The entire 330 yard spool of Stren costs like $8, it works out to about 3 cents a yard for quality line to use as backing.  Backing takes up space on the reel, so you do not waste expensive braid, and it keeps the braid from slipping on the reel.

I fish lots of different types of water, from deep clear lakes in Kentucky and Tennessee as well as the off color waters of the Chesapeake Bay tidal rivers.  This setup works well for us in both conditions.

Do those camo marks work better than just coloring the last few feet all black?

Nice that sounds good to me. I'll get the 150 yard 15 lb Power Pro and back it with Stren, but what happens if/when I run out of braid? I just tie more to the mono or I need to re-spool everything? I'm glad the Palomar knot is the knot I'm the most comfortable with.
