BoilerFisherman Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 So I have tried to do as much research as possible before being repetitive, but I have some questions before I think about asking to join a bass club. 1. Do I have to fish all the tournaments if I join a club? 2. Should I be upfront with my ability when it comes to bass fishing when I email the club to get information? 3. I notice a lot of the clubs talk about their tournaments, but do they do anything else? 4. Do I need to do anything specifc if I am looking to join only as a co-angler? Thanks Quote
visagelaid Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 It varies depending on the club but generally: 1. No. You dont have to fish every tournament if you dont care about where you are in the club point standings. 2. Yes. When inquiring about the club tell them that you are new or inexperienced and let them know that your main priority is to learn from the other guys in the club. If that club isnt about helping or teaching folks, then it may not be the best fit for you. 3. The club that I am in does a booth at a couple fishing events in the local area. We mostly concentrate on fishing though. 4. I am a co-angler as well and all I ever need to bring is my own gear i plan to fish with. My lifejacket. And I generally kick in $20-$30 for gas money to the boater. I generally offer to bring drinks or whatever, but i have always been denied. You should also fill out your profile so we can see where you live. This can also help you connect with locals in your area that may be in clubs that dont heavily advertise. Good luck finding a club. Its a lot of fun. 2 Quote
BoilerFisherman Posted May 25, 2017 Author Posted May 25, 2017 Thanks for the information. I will definitely refer back to it. As for my information, for some reason it won't save. I will try to address that. Quote
WTnPuddleJumper Posted May 31, 2017 Posted May 31, 2017 Bass Clubs can be great if you can find one that fits your needs/expectations. Our club is one huge fishing family. We cook or eat out the night before tournaments, we laugh, joke and carry-on like we've known each other our entire lives. We help each other out and share fishing info. Its more than just points and trophies. But yes fish all the club has to offer, don't just hen pick your favorite lakes. This will help build a bond with you and the club. Some clubs raise money for charities (ours does). I understand I am rambling but if you join a club, jump in with both feet, enjoy all it has to offer. 1 Quote
BoilerFisherman Posted June 1, 2017 Author Posted June 1, 2017 I have sent emails to 2 different Indianapolis area clubs. I am hoping to here back from them soon. I have always been a little competitive, and definitely love learning and having fun. Hopefully I get a response soon or happen across someone in my area on here that can help. Quote

You might want to show up at their next weigh in and introduce yourself, that way you can see first hand if these are hospitable folks who will welcome you into their group. 3 Quote

Took a little bit of work, but I am finally in contact with a club called the Indy Bass Hustlers, hopefully I will be able to meet up with some of their people and see what they are all about soon.
