My oldest son, Lake, has really wanted to go fishing lately but the rain has kept us away. Finally got a chance to go this weekend and he caught several fish, including a huge crappie in our neighbor's pond on a wacky rigged 5" stickworm. It looks big in the picture, but it was even bigger in person, 15-16 inches by the mark on rod he was using. The 5" bait just about fit in it's mouth without having to be bent.

Dang, he is better than me. I only caught two baby crappies a long long time ago.

So who was more excited, you or Lake?  I'm waiting for my 3 year old to hook up with his first one, and I'm plenty excited to see it happen!

He had his first run in with one of the catfish in our pond the same day, it did not end as well.

Truly awesome crappie! And with the kid involved, it's a priceless moment for sure. Watch out Dad.....this is going to get expensive FAST! LOL!

Awesome pic and thanks for sharing. His little hands holding those baits! Precious!

My youngest, now 16, fishes with me. Nothing better than seeing him hook up. His PB largemouth he got through the ice and he has a bigger PB than me (for now)...

Sure I like catching fish and I "might" hook more than he does but I share every bit of everything I know hoping he'll be a better angler. But we "all" know there's nothing better than learning by "fishing". But back to the kids... These are times that we'll never get back. Take many pictures and catch many fish! ENJOY!!!

Oh wow, that's awesome. Big fish too! you really get an idea of how big that fish is with the way you're holding it next to your son. :)

A beauty for sure. Congrats on an awesome memory for you two.
