Rodney Smith Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 Anybody use this model? I have a Shimano Metanium and I'm thinking about trying one of these. Quote
Big-Bass Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 I bought one on TW with the BM Classic sale. They are beautiful light reels for lighter styled baits. They can be had on some JDM sites that still have a few. I bet a TW limited version will be coming out shortly since the new model Steez has been out for about a year. Quote
mwh33 Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 I have one paired with a nrx. I use it for pitching lightweight baits and for t-rigs. Awesome reel. I also have the sv103 LTD that I use for senkos. Quote
LuckyHandsINC. Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 I have one and it is probably my favorite reel. If you are talking about the MGL metanium I have one of those as well. When it comes to pure casting distance the metanium is the better performer. The Steez wins every other category though, in my opinion. Comfort, smoothe retrieve ease of use and especially looks/cool factor. Quote
Big-Bass Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 The paint on them is a reflective cool color but I am sure it is prone to starching easily. In fact, I have seen many of the 105 LTD reels that have slight factory bubbling/pinpoint marks on the reel as it must be part of the coating process. Do any of yours have any of these marks? They are not scratches but rather just a little dust or something that must have been on the reel surface when the paint coating was applied. Quote

No mine looks very nice, and still does after using it for two seasons. I do make a conscious effort to take good care of my gear though. Quote
Big-Bass Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 Yes mine is nice too...I was just saying I saw some like I had mentioned with very minuscule (and I mean really really small inconsistencies) marks but I am super OCD with getting perfect reels from the factory. I am also really freakishly protective of keeping my gear looking new! Quote
cheezyridr Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 i just bought one of these reels, i am waiting for the ups guy RIGHT NOW. i go to the porch every 20 minutes to see if it's here yet. of course, the weather is crap this weekend, so i wont get to use it right away. but i am soooo psyched. it's my first high end purchase. i am hoping i will be able to cast the smaller lures that are better suited to the places i fish most. my other rig is a mach2 combo i bought a couple years ago. it's a good all-arounder for bass. it's still not here yet Quote

Thinking about unloading mine to a collector because it is near mint but I also think I can keep it in tact with reel covers. I think I payed $300 for it new. I already have 3 other reels on the same platform. I'll probably trade it off for another Daiwa. I want to say that there is a clear coat that can be applied to protect the factory paint, I think one of the custom shop guys on TT mentioned it? I had one for a while, loved how it looked and fished but I didn't like how it palmed. I wish I had kept it to try on different rods. The finish is very very fragile, I think I added a scratch to mine just from scraping on a jacket zipper. Quote
cheezyridr Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 ok, i'm sure once someone explains, it's going to seem really obvious, but i have to ask: why do you guys care about the paint? are they prone to decay? what am i missing? Quote

Some people wash their car in the summer, others like their reels to be pretty, different strokes. 1 Quote
cheezyridr Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 ok, i understand wanting to keep your stuff nice. i'm like that with my guitars and my bike. i dont flip my gear so resale isn't an issue for me. i couldn't if i wanted to. no one i know (locally) uses anything not available at walmart anyhow. they all think i'm stupid for spending what i do, even for the lew's combo. my rods live in my car for about half the year, so keeping them pretty would be impossible. i just recently bought a daiwa sv lite ltd. i LOVE this reel. holy cow it's on a whole other level than the mach 2 i have. i can cast little tiny spinners and plastics for a mile! it weighs next to nothing, and it's almost impossible to backlash. i balked at spending this much money for a reel, but it turned out to be well worth it. i spooled it with 10 lb mono, and paired with a st croix mojo 7 1/2 ft, med lite with a fast tip. i do alot of creek fishing, and i wanted a rig for that. the creek i fish is mostly small mouth, largemouth, and red eye, but big ones are pretty rare. i am terrible at casting a spinning rod, so this solves most of my problems.
