I'm looking to buying 4 reels from quantum I'm looking at buying the quantum hd tour in multiple gear ratios and the smoke pt 6.2.1

would you suggest anything else from that company or is the hd tour what most pros use but just in different gear ratios?

Ig what im asking are the pros using the hd tour reel with different ratios or are they using a mix of quantum brands for baitcasters.

Two quantum reels right here... No complaints whatsoever.  I, however, am one of those people who believes rods and reels can't be as well made and come from the same company. Every company specializes in one side over the other.  Not saying rods from companies like Abu Garcia and Shimano are bad, I just trust a rod company more than a reel company to have better blanks.

Lol thanks guys oppions aside. I'm just asking what do the pros do for there choices is it just the new hd 200 in different gear ratios or is do they use the tour mg also if so what makes it worth it?

If you are set on Quantum that is fine but I don't believe there are a lot of guys on here that use them. More of a Daiwa, Shimano, Lews, BPS, Phfleuger, crowd it seems.

Just make sure you get something that has an aluminum frame or a magnesium frame over graphite. The pros are using likely whatever they want so they may be selecting a mix of mid to higher end offerings from Quantum.

Not sure I agree with this completely. Megabass makes rods and reels. Their reels are essentially tuned Daiwa reels. Tuned internally, and usually with cosmetic differences. Their rods are incredible at the Orichi XX line and above and compare favorably to any other rod manufacturer.

Shimano is another example. However I will say that the rods aren't as good as some of their early offerings. The gen 1 and gen 2 Cumara rods plus the Cumulus rods were some of the best bass rods that I have ever used. And the Cumulus rods were some of the lightest as well.

For what you pay for the Abu rods I think they are solid values especially their Veritas/Vendetta/Villain rods.

I don't know how Lews rods are and I haven't used many of the One Three rods and reels so I cant comment on those but the other 3 I mentioned all make really nice rods IMO.

Every manufacturer has its own bevy of loyal followers, otherwise it would cease to exist.

Many years back, I was sucker-punched by Quantum, and they're still paying the price to this day.

I purchased two brand new Quantum casting reels for pike fishing in Lake Huron (Georgian Bay).

To make a long story short, both reels failed, not one but 'both'. One was my wife's. the other was mine.

I didn't even bother to pursue the warranties, because I wanted to wash my hands of Quantum (into the dumpster).

Again, this was many years ago, so I'm sure Quantum reels have undergone many changes since then.

Be that as it may, that's the price Quantum had to pay for slapdash workmanship of yesterday (Pre-KVD)

If the pros have a problem with one of theirs the rep probably hands them two new ones. I don't have that luxury. I'm out and paying for KVDs stuff. Hey, they put out good stuff. I had a couple of higher end spinning reels I developed problems with and was not satisfied how the handled my problems. But I could be one in very few guys. Got the red a$$ and never again.

I've got 2 old ones (mid 90's old) that were my dad's, no issues with them, they still work today but I don't care for them. I don't know that it's because they are quantum, they just aren't what I like.

I have & use a few Shimano rounds reels, & spinning reels - the rest of my 'arsenal' is all Quantum casting reels.

For whatever reason I just have not had any of the problems that seem to plague others.

And here is a small sampling of bass that were casted to, hooked, fought & eventually landed on a Quantum Casting reels.

They work just fine for me.

YMMV

Thanks everyone so far for your replies. What are the benefits of the mg tour that makes it 300? It seems to do everything the hd smokes do

The Tour mg is more because of the materials used to make it.  It's built on a magnesium frame so it will be lighter (5.4 oz vs 6.9 oz for the Smoke).  It also has almost double the amount of bearings (11 vs 7 in the Smoke).  I believe the Smoke HD is a more heavy duty reel, and would excel at pitching, flipping, frogging, and deep cranking.  While I no longer use Quantum, nor do I have any experience with the reels you're asking about, I imagine there is little difference in the performance between the two.  It's up to you whether or not the weight reduction and extra smoothness is worth the $80 price difference.

I have a Smoke PT that smoked big reds to 39" in Louisiana with zero issues and continues to serve as a frog reel.    I also have a EXO that I love.

So I should do a mix if I'm trying to pick out 6 bait casters of all different gear ratios we would go with the hds smoke

and just the smoke?

Sorry for all the questions. I just wanted to figure out the best options since I'm buying them today and will have them for a long time for my main set ups

If you are going to have them for a long time, then better look at shimano or daiwa in a lot of peoples opinions.

Now if you are set for Quantums, then you will want a variety.

For flipping/pitching - bottom contact applications such as jigs, t-rigs, carolina rigs, etc... you would want something that will handle larger line diameter (15lb+ mono/floro, or 50lb+ braid) better which is going to be the Smoke HD and you will want the 7.3:1.

For moving baits (other than deep cranking in which i would do the HD in 5.3:1) i would go with the regular smoke if thats what you are set on, with 6.1:1 for those ratios, that will handle jerkbaits, topwater (other than frogs), shallow to mid depth cranks, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, swim jigs, swimbaits, etc... all of these will primarily be 15lb or less and will work better on the smaller spooled reels.

So pending on what rods and techniques these will be used for will determine the reel choice.

The "pros" are just like the rest of us as in no two are the same. Don't base your decisions on them unless you agree with the reasons one of them offers for their choices and preferences.

Well, the big momma lm basses are from Bacurato.

I have 3 quantum energy pt's, 2 team kvds, iron 300 pt and the original smoke. The energy reels out cast my curado and citica 200i's, my tatula HD, and my bb1 pro by close to 10 yards. They have more drag then any of my other reels and at such smoother then the tatula and bb1 pro. They are of par with the curado and citica, if not then a fraction behind. The smoke is one MEAN reel, it will rip out a tree from the roots. I don't care what anyone else says, quantum can make a pretty darn good reel if you ask me. DM me if you want more info. I've taken all my reels apart so I'd say I know my quantum's pretty well
