Looking for a rod to split between crappie and certian bass tactics. Wondering what you lot are using out there? Havent had to buy an ul setup for myself in a long time.

have 2 Ray Scott sport tackle 6'9" med light rods with Penn 420ssg reels. have 10 lb. power pro on one and 4 lb. test Trilene XL on the other. very light rods that can cast the lightest lure with ease. have an ultralight tackle bag that stays in my truck at all times. will fish after work 2-3 times a week if I can't take out the boat at night. use everything from worm, crankbaits, topwater.Great setups for light line fishing.

6'10" fast action L power spin rod from company green with.... plus 2500 Ci4 with 6lb. 832. Usually 6lb fluoro leader but will go down to 5lb. on occasion. Any lighter line test or power rod and it's harmful to the fish as breakoffs increase exponentially with true UL rods and 4lb and under lines, IMO.

Hasn't seen any use in several years, but a 7'2" Light River Runner with 10# 832 Ghost on a Team Daiwa-S 1500CU.  It was purchased strictly for panfish.  Weight range 1/32-5/16 oz.  I have to say an old 6' F Lightning with 4# XL on a Penn 430SS is pretty versatile even though the rod is rated 1/8-3/8 oz.  I've cast 1/16 oz. Roostertails on it with no problem.  It was my main rod 35-40 years ago catching anything from small sunnies to decent size pickerel.  Unfortunately I haven't gone fishing for panfish in a long, long time.

Fenwick 6'9" river runner elite tech and a pfluger supreme 30. It's my trout rod but I bring it along for crappie and bluegill when the bass bite is slow

Custom Phenix K2 6'8 Light

Majorcraft Speedstyle 6'4 UL

Both of these rods I got at a steal but they are great rods that handle panfish, trout, and smaller bass just fine. These are both spinning rods and I assume that is what you are asking about.

The only setup I use that's light enough for panfish but stout enough to fish for Bass is a 6'6" light fast avid spinning rod with an ss700 reel and either 15 lb braid, 6 lb tatsu, or 6lb trilene xl. I use the braid for grass, tatsu for most fishing, and mono for treble hook baits

@Fishinthefish I'm running two ultra light setups at this time.

The first is a 7'6" Daiwa Presso w/ a Daiwa Exceler 2000 which is spooled with 4lbs Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon.  I fish everything from small crank baits to jerk baits to micro jigs down to 1/64oz in size and it handles everything with ease. I've had accidental catches all the way up to about 10lbs in the form of a musky hit my offerings and I've landed them successfully. I find that the longer rod takes pressure off of the lighter line. It also works well for rainbow trout in the nearby tributaries.

My second setup is a 5'6" Fenwick Eagle UL matched with an Abu Garcia Cardinal STX5 reel which is also spooled with 4lbs test Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon. I keep this as a back up to the Presso combo above but I find myself using it when I'm not sure what the pannies will be biting that day when it comes to jig fishing, so on one I'll have one of my favourite go to soft plastics and on the this one say a marabou jig or something completely different from the first setup.

I find the most important thing with any UL combo is the drag system on the reel. If it's good, it'll handle just about anything that decides to inhale the bait. Rod length also helps with this, as many steelhead fishermen use 13' rods to remove the pressure on their 4 or sometimes 3lbs test fluorocarbon leaders.  I'm considering using my Presso setup for drop shotting this summer in some of the more open water locales I'll be fishing.

Cheers, and have a great season.

I also use the 6'6" LF Avid with a Pflueger Supreme 25 (6# mono) for Perch, Crappie and Bass. I like it a lot for Perch and Crappie, but sometimes think it's a little light for bass, though I have not used braid. I will likely give that a try soon! Overall this rod has great sensitivity, and I would recommend the combo!

5'0" L action Ugly Stik w/ rear drag shimano that I got for Christmas when I asked Santa for a noodle rod. I have a custom featherlight for Crappie/Panfish and a vintage Daiwa for Trout on creeks/streams, but that rig that I never wanted seems to wind up in the truck every single time I go fishing, be it a backup for the other 2 UL's, a backup for the lighter bass rigs, or the one I grab with the flathead gear to go catch bait.

St. Croix Legend Elite 7' Light w/ Stradic Ci4+ 1000 spooled w/ PP 15/4#. I was using PP 10/2# but it was getting wrapped around the tip too much so I upped the line a little. Works great on a variety of presentations.

And here I am.. doing my ultralight fishing on a cheap walmart Shakespeare combo I've had for 10 years.

My GF chucks 1.5s on her pink 5'6" BPS lady lite! I hate taking her because i spend more time unhooking her fish than i do fishing.Never once has she caught a bluegill on it either. No need to go all out on a pan fish rig.

From the "just because I could department". I bought a 6' 4 wt 1 piece "Lamiglas" fly rod and built an UL rod. I love fishing with it. Usually a Stella 1000 with 4lb co-polymer line. I call it my "noodle rod".

Just got a 4 piece Daiwa Presso 7' UL, just tested it out with a Pflueger President 6920. It has more backbone than I anticipated. I caught some bedding panfish and it didn't really load up at all. Took a 1 lb bass to get a good bend.

A custom made rod by our very own @.ghoti. with a Supreme XT. It's a great combo that has been a blast catching panfish, trout, and bass. Handles light baits extremely well.
