Skeet reese Alabama rod

Looking for a Swim bait rod to throw up to 2.5 oz lures. Right now I'm using an *** black rated for up to 2oz but a buddy of mine is willing to sell his skeet Alabama rig rod that's up to 3oz for 100 canadian. Anyone familiar with these rods and is that a good deal?

I do not know that rod but I would look at the Dobyns Fury swimbait rod. Brand new it is $120.

Dobyns makes a really nice rod. I have never had that one  in my hand but Gary has said it is a very popular one.

 

Give Tackle Warehouse a call and ask about the procedure to ship into Canada.   I know of another member here that did just that because there were no Powell dealers near him in Ontario.

Imo no it isn't if it's the bright yellow rod. These were on sale several times under 60 bucks on tackle warehouse and other sites. Not very balanced or sensitive but if you only want rod for a rigs and swimbaits then they are fished tip down anyway and sensitivity isn't a huge deal with those techniques. Personally I'd look at the tatula and tatula xt 7'4" heavy or 7'6" heavy. They are only rated to 2 oz but I've used 3 oz baits with mine and it didn't over power the rod. They fish most baits from 1/2- 2 1/2 oz very well. I use mine mostly for big football jigs, carolina rigs, big spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and a rigs. Much better balance and feel than the skeet rods, and can be found around 100 or less on the auction site. The other rod I use for a rigs and swimbaits is the okuma guide select. It is a very nice rod for not much over 100 and would be my choice if you wanted to go over 2 1/2 oz very often. I think you would be much happier with either of these than the skeet rod. Another rod that looks like a great value is the one three defy or fate series swimbaits sticks. Well under 100 and very attractive looking. I have a fate chrome spinning rod and a defy casting rod I bought for loaners for fishing partners and for fishing overgrown ponds from the bank. I've been very impressed and plan on getting one of the swimbaits rods for the same purposes. If you like the yellow or have fished the skeet rod and like it, then by all means go for it. If the answer is no to either of those questions I'd definitely take a look at the others I mentioned before buying. I bought several of the skeet rods for around 50 bucks each and ended up selling them all after just a couple uses because I just didn't like them as well as other budget rods I've tried

I'm not familiar with the A-rig rod, but I've touched other Eagle Claw/Wright McGill yellow rods with Skeet Reese's name on them.   None of them seems sensitive enough for me.

As far as I'm concerned there isn't any substitute for sensitivity, even on reaction bait rods built for cranks or square bills or spinner baits or A-rigs.

 

My current opinion on A-rig rods varies from day to day.  Some days I favor a 7'9" Fenwick Aetos Heavy action rod other days ( most days really ) an old Team Diana 7' Musky rod gets the start.   It handles 2oz+ A rigs well and throws nearly as far as the longer rod - and it stores much easier.   Jury is still out though.   I wouldn't get that yellow rod though, I think you can do better for similar amounts of money.
