problem with my Daiwa Zillion SV TW Casting Reels

I'm having trouble with my bait-caster when i push down on my spool release button and cast it will pop back up and make a bad grinding sound and at the same time my reel handle spins along with my spool when it pops back up am i just casting too hard or is something broken inside my reel? It doesn't happen every cast it usually happens randomly sometimes every 5 cast or even 10 cast i can still reel my line in smoothly.

Repair time. Sounds like the release lever has got worn. Can happen if the gears are engaged before the cast is finished. Once it's been repaired just be careful to wait until the spool has stopped spinning before turning the handle.

Mine is have an issue as well, a soft sound like a bike spoke on a baseball card, but only occasionally and only when retrieving under a load.  I have had it apart over and over but can't find any foreign matter in there.  My spool pin is far too loose and will fall out on it's own, but I believe that it is retained by the drive gear and "that collar thing that goes over it" when the spool is in the reel.

 

Please let us know what you find out.

Tighten the cast control cap down as tight as you can with your fingers, then crank it around slowly. You should feel the gears a little bit, but not bad. If you can feel every tooth it's a bad pinion gear. If you feel it in certain spots as you go around it's a bad main gear. Might try that to see if you can figure anything out with it. You need a new spool pin though first. It is held in place by the slots on the pinion gear but it has a little room to move. It won't come out in there but should be replaced asap before it causes any damage to the end of the pinion gear. Also could be the cause of your noise.

Thanks, I looked over the gears but didn't give them a super close check.  I have more spare pins on the way, but it took losing two to realize how loose they were.  I sold some unused reels and bought a sv103, it will beat the spool pins here so I can check the Zillion Sv with it's spool.  

 

If the spool pin is the cause of the noise, how can I fix it?  Would using a needle to apply a tiny bit of purple locktite be an awful idea?

A new one should be a tight fit. If not I'm really not sure on a fix. That would mean the hole in the spool is enlarged.

Yea, I am pretty displeased. My only thought is an adhesive that is removable enough so I can clean the bearings every so often, or trying to get someone to make me a slightly oversized pin.
