Jeff H. Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 Good evening, I picked up a Bass Pro Extreme 60 Million spinning rod in excellent shape for $10.00 at a yard sell. It is 6'6" medium action, 4-12lb test, 1/8-1/2 oz. I will be using this in my kayak for multi-specie fishing along with my MH bait casting combo which I have 14lb test on. I want to put Pflueger President XT Spinning Reel on it. Not able to get to a tackle shop to look at them in person I am going to have to purchase online. Would you suggest the Presxts P30. P35 or p40? Thanks Quote
Super User Darren. Posted May 18, 2017 Super User Posted May 18, 2017 Welcome aboard, Jeff! Lots of Pflueger fans here. I'm a Shimano fan, myself, so not a whole lot of help. However, for that size/power rod, I'd not go much higher than a 2500 size. So I think I'd opt for a 30 in your list.... Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted May 19, 2017 Super User Posted May 19, 2017 My wife and I fish a lot of Pfluegers, mostly Presidents and one Supreme. I prefer the 30 series for my medium light action rods and 35 series for my medium action rods. Physically they are not much different in size. Quote
HeavyTwenty Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 I like the 30s. It fits my hand. The size 25 is probably a knuckle buster. You don't really need any more line capacity. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted May 19, 2017 Super User Posted May 19, 2017 I vote for a size 30 on medium rod under 7', although it's mostly a matter of taste. There are some differences with line capacity, drag strength, retrieve rate (or line pick-up per turn of the reel), and weight, which are all greater with a size 35. You can compare them here: http://www.pfluegerfishing.com/pflueger-reels-spinning-reels/pflueger-president--xt-spinning-reel/1405300.html I don't worry too much about line capacity, as long as I'm using 8lb test or thereabouts. Max drag I also don't worry about here, as the 30 has more than enough (10lb). Retrieve rate of the 30 is already pretty good, at 31 inches per turn. Generally, I think that as long as the bigger reel isn't obviously very advantageous on those three things, I am going to want the lighter reel of the two. If I had a longer or heavier heavier rod, that's when I would consider the 35. Quote
jbw252 Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 The Pflueger President is a great choice. It's a tank - durable & not too expensive for most folks. I too, would suggest the 30 size. Quote
