What line for Shimano Curado?

I've just recently received my Shimano Curado and my new 6'6 medium heavy rod. I'm wondering what the best line would be. I'm mostly be using for jigs, spinnerbaits, etc. I was thinking of going with 30lb power pro braid.

If you are going with braid, I would not spool up with less than 40#.  I prefer how 50# handles.  It's not about break strength, and all about how the line handles on casting gear.  50# is the equivalent diameter to most 10-12# single filament lines.

I agree with your thinking, 30-lb braid would be the cat's meow.

I have a few outfits spooled with 50-lb braid,

but they're used strictly for mat-punching and frogging.

Curado 200 or 70?  The 200 will hold A LOT of 30lb power pro (more than a 150 yd spool).  Some guys will use cheap mono backing to fill up 1/4 to 1/2 of the spool so you don't have 20 bucks of line you'll never see buried deep.

 

Personally, I have just a handful of combos with varying line sizes/types and I don't run into this problem, my deeper spools (e.g. Curado 200) have straight fluoro, mono, or 65lb braid depending on the application, and my only combo with a shallow spool (Curado 70) has 30lb braid to flouro.

Which Curado, the 200 or 70.  If you have the 200 I'd go a bit heavier, if it's the 70 I'd go 30.

Then I vote 40 or 50.  I originally loaded my 201 with 40, then changed to 30 and aren't in love with it.  I may go up to 50, but that's because I throw trebles no leader and the lighter stuff seems to get tangled a bit more in the hooks, and for some reason I have to set the outer breaks a bit higher.  With 40 or 50 lb braid it still holds plenty of line as @Bent posted.

On my 200E I use 20# Flouro, on the I 16# for the same presentations. 

You'll get more suggestions to use braid with and without a leader on this board, but for what you want to use it for all would work. 

 

Flouro to me would be the best choice. Braid with a leader a far...very far distanced 3rd. 

 

Your waters should be the deciding factor.

I'm in the 40-50lb. braid camp as well. I've tried going smaller diameter, but it's only lead to problems.

My 201E has had nothing but 20lb braid on it since I bought it. I can't remember ever having any issues. It's never dug in and I seldom get backlashes. I've never had any reason to wish I'd have used anything heavier.

For 200 size I'd go 40.

I agree that with the 200i, 40lb is better because of line capacity and line management. If it was a shallower spool then I'd go with 30lb. I'd still use a good bit of backing.

40# Fortis braid , only about 10 bucks  or less for 165 yards and it cast great
