Jartbek Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I know i am overthinking things but i am planning on restringing my poles and trying to decide what type of line to get. My first pole want to use spinnerbaits, and jigs. My second pole I want to use soft plastics to Texas Rig, and drop shot. Quote

If casting pole is a 3 to 4 power or Medium Heavy bass rod I would suggest 14 to 15 lb test Big Game mono. The spinning rod I would suggest 8 lb Sunline Super Natural mono. Both lines are reasonable price and excellent choices for general use bass fishing. Tom Quote

Super User NHBull Posted May 18, 2017 Super User Posted May 18, 2017 Braid with leaders gives you the most options Quote

Dinger0306 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 12# Stren on BCer 8# Trilene XL on Spinning Probably not the "best" but inexpensive and hasn't let me down. If fishing heavy cover maybe bump it up to 14 and 10. 1 Quote

Berkeley Big Game 12 lb or 15 lb is a good choice. Sunline Super Natural 8 lb for the spinning rod. Braid would cost you as much as the rod did and your rod isn't well suited for braid IMO. Super User RoLo Posted May 18, 2017 Super User Posted May 18, 2017 Straight braid, NO leader for both. Should I discover a need for a leader, I'll get back to you (be very patient) Roger 3 Quote

Tom Yeah the berkley rod is older I say about 7 years Quote
Super User Angry John Posted May 18, 2017 Super User Posted May 18, 2017 Casting setup 12lb YHB for general purpose. Spinning 6 or 8 lb XL. Both lines are cheap and are proven time and again. 2 Quote
rcg703 Posted May 18, 2017 Posted May 18, 2017 I just changed up this year and went with Big Game and XL. 15lb Big Game on the jig rod and 8lb XL on the spinning rod. 1 Quote
bigfruits Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 straight braid, braid with leader, or straight FC. all personal preference but id go straight FC on both. i wouldnt use mono because of the jig and t-rigs. 1 Quote
