Fishin Maniac Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 Okay guys i need some opinions on the sun dolphin 120 pro bass boat its just a portable bass boat and i was wondering if it would be a nice first boat for a young adult Or if I should buy a deep v aluminum boat or a john boat? I really like the features on the sun dolphin though. So i am wondering what other types of smaller boats or smaller aluminum boats under 2500 dollars, Thanks! Quote
flyingmonkie Posted May 21, 2017 Posted May 21, 2017 I've owned a couple "two man" boats in my day, and they can be pretty fun, and I've caught a lot of fish out of them. The Sun Dolphin 120 is bigger than the plain 'ol bass buggies I've had... but you can usually find a bass buggy (with trolling motor and battery) for under $500 on Craigslist. If you were to buy a Sun Dolphin 120 new, after trolling motor, sonar, battery, other accessories, you'll be pushing $2k. For the same amount or less, you could get a REALLY nice kayak, or an aluminum jon boat. I think it would be fun to do a bass boat conversion on a jon boat. There are pros and cons to each. Are YOU the young adult? Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 22, 2017 Super User Posted May 22, 2017 I had a version of the 102 growing up and I'd vouch that they are a great boat for a young adult, or anyone just getting their start in the boating world. They're stable for a boat that size, they handle water well, and they have a nice layout. There isn't much that can go wrong with them, and it will help you to grow into whatever you choose to move on to if you choose to do so. If I could have afforded to upgrade when I did without selling my 2 man rig, I would have kept it. Quote
