Just a quick Public Service Announcement about using scent

be sure not to get the scent all over you and on your watch that you wear everyday or you will smell like fish oil and garlic and it will drive you nuts trying to get rid of the smell.

thank you

I've very confused.

I like JJ's so much that I sprinkle a few drops in the car every now and then...just because I miss it.  And don't ask if I've ever just cracked the lid in January and taken a good whiff.....just because  :)

Try Wet Ones antibacterial fresh scent hand wipes when done fishing for the day. Takes the fish and bait smell away better than anything else I tried.

Started using these after I noticed my car's steering wheel was starting to stink the day after driving home from fishing.

Last fall a bottle of JJ's fell off a shelf in my basement, onto the concrete. My entire basement still wreaks...

Here's another PSA on scent:

If it is spray based, DO NOT SPRAY INTO THE WIND.

I smelled like shad/crawfish until I got home and showered.

Hey, look, wind can do crazy things when you're in a kayak.

I swear the wind changed directions just as I was spraying

the bait.

Another PSA on scent. Apparently dogs love it.

I fish the same spot at a local pond. There is a path nearby where people and their dogs can walk.

When I am applying scent to baits I will often lay it on the grass and spray them to avoid what Darren mentioned. I noticed that the dogs can not resist this spot. Anyone with a dog that passes by has their dog pull them over so they can smell the hell out of that spot.

Fake garlic smell is the bane of my existence.  I love the smell of fresh garlic so much that lego smellin stuff just hurts me so deep down...  If I get a whiff I have to order garlic knots on the way home to get my senses over the trauma.

I would like to add one of the great lessons I learned in life.

If you chew Redman put it in your mouth BEFORE adjusting your jig trailer you just drenched with Kick-N-Bass craw.

Not trying to derail thread....but what spray scent do you use and do you like it? I fish out of a kayak and am considering scents but don't want to make a mess applying it (is assume you rub it on the bait....megastrike for example).

I got red Spike It all over my hands before. I looked like I was a murderer. That stuff doesn't come off for anything either.

Friend turned me on to the BANG sprays, I don't use it

all the time, but I do like it. Lasts for maybe 10 or 11 casts

then reapply.

I spilled chartreuse Dip'n'Dye of some sort on a pair of pants once.  My crotch and left leg basically looked glow in the dark, and the stains are still there.  Whatever is actually in that stuff, it was not intended to go away quick.

Aerosol or pump scent spray should be avoided, gels or paste are less messy and more effective.

My worst experience with a scent was Smelly Jelly when it first came out,  good product, bad container. The jars reacted with the scent chemical and split the lids. I had a tackle bag with a jar in it while fishing with a partner in his boat when this horrible smell overcame us, it was a jar with the lid cracked off on a hot day and Smelly Jelly melted covering the inside if the bag and leaking out onto the boat carpet.

Try This:

Spray a reputable fish scent on the soles of your shoes, then take a stroll around your favorite bass pond.

You will notice pods of fish following you around the shoreline.

Now break into a moderate jog and you will be followed by a whitewater wake!  :surprised-038:

This is all true of course, except the part about 'fish scent'   :embarassed2:
