Avalonjohn44 Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 I have an Optimax ProXS 115 DFI 2-Stroke, got it new last year. Since I was learning I kept to electric only lakes mostly and as a result I ran the motor only 4 times (one of which was in the BPS garage on clamshells...). I still have more than half of the oil reservoir full of the oil the motor came with. The recommended oil in the owners manual is Mercury DFI Oil (with Quicksilver TWC3 oil as an acceptable solution if the DFI is not available). I ordered the DFI from amazon, and was about to top off the reservoir and have come to the problem, maybe... The existing oil is blueish/dark green, the DFI is brownish. Looks like the motor came from BPS filled with TWC3. I want to use the preferred oil. So, to my questions: Should I avoid mixing these two oils? Should I run the TWC3 down as far as I dare to before putting the DFI oil in? Or should I have it completely flushed and start using the DFI oil exclusively? Or should I just keep using the TWC3 and not worry about it? Thanks in advance! Quote
Super User slonezp Posted May 17, 2017 Super User Posted May 17, 2017 Run down what you can safely and top off with the DFI. The main difference with the DFI is the additives. 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 Good to hear. I'll just run with a jug of oil in a storage bin until I get close. Thanks! Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 17, 2017 Super User Posted May 17, 2017 You probably only have 15 running ours on your OB with 1/2 tank of oil remaining. It could be another year to run it down so I would drain the remaining oil and fill with the newer DFI oil. Tom 1 Quote
